Top ten: significant achievements of BNTU in cultural life

Золотая десятка: значимые достижения БНТУ в культурной жизни

The cultural space of the Belarusian National Technical University cannot be described in words, but it is easy to talk about the achievements of the Polytechnic in this field. In the third article of the "Top Ten" column, we recall the ten brightest cultural events and achievements of 2023 at  BNTU.

The festival of student creativity "Spring of BNTU" has become a particularly bright event. In April 2023, the renovation of the assembly hall of the academic building No. 11A was completed, and it became a real gift to all students of BNTU. The hall has changed beyond recognition: soft chairs in the auditorium, a renovated stage, a new design of the ceiling and walls, lighting, new lighting equipment, etc. In addition, the dressing rooms next to the stage entrance have been renovated and equipped. It was in this renovated hall that the university's most beloved event was launched. The audience gave thunderous applause and thanked everyone who invested their strength and energy in transforming the legendary assembly hall of the Polytechnic University.

The participation of the BNTU Folk Choir in the open youth festival-competition in memory of the Hero of Belarus Metropolitan Filaret “Look at the sky (Nyabesa)” was successful. The creative association won a 1st degree diploma in the choral nomination “Suguccia”.

For the first time, groups from the BNTU Department of Cultural Affairs performed at the site of the Town Hall in the Upper Town as part of the opening of the summer music and tourism season in Minsk. The department prepared a two-hour concert on May 13, 2023, which received a lot of positive feedback and joyful impressions directly from the participants.

In 2023, honored worker of culture of the Republic of Belarus, a conductor of the National Orchestra of Folk Instruments, Romuald Parmon was nominated for an award from the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus in the field of literature, art, journalism and amateur creativity. Following the results of the competition, Romuald Yakovlevich became the winner of the FTU Award for outstanding creative achievements and active concert and performance activities of the National Orchestra of Folk Instruments.

Creative teams of the BNTU Department of Cultural Affairs took part in the IX Minsk City Patriotic Song contest dedicated to the Year of Peace and Creation. The folk song ensemble “Kakhanachka” was awarded a 1st degree diploma, and the soloist of the vocal and pop studio “Love Soul” Yegor Obolevich became the owner of a 3rd degree diploma. The winners took an active part in city events dedicated to May 9.

The soloists of the vocal and pop studio “Soul in Love” were invited to participate in the Republican concert dedicated to Teacher’s Day, which took place at the Palace of the Republic on October 1.  The guys sang two compositions together with the students from other educational institutions, as well as with Belarusian pop artists. Alexander Pasko, a participant in the “Debut” school of presenters of the BNTU Department of Cultural Affairs, was entrusted to host the festive event.

The creative teams of the department presented the Belarusian National Technical University at the district gala concert "Creating the world together" of the II stage of the Minsk City Festival of Folk Art "Suzor'e", which took place on the stage of the Belarusian State Philharmonic. Following the results of the festival, the vocal and pop studio "The Soul in Love", the dance ensemble "Druzhba", the ballroom dance studio "Tango", the folk song ensemble "Kahanachka", as well as the soloist of the ensemble Alexandra Nizhnikova were awarded diplomas of the first degree. Diplomas of the III degree were awarded to the soloist of the vocal and pop studio Egor Obolevich and Arina Kolesova, a member of the Polistikh literary association.

In 2023, for the first time, a joint project of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union and the Department of Cultural Affairs took place - the competition “BNTU Student of the Year”. The event was preceded by a huge preparatory work. Ten best representatives from the faculties of BNTU took part in the competition program. The winner of the competition Arina Kolesova (a student of the Faculty of Marketing, Management, Entrepreneurship, an active participant in the creative teams of the Department of Cultural Affairs) successfully represented the university at the city stage of the competition and became one of the finalists of the Republican contest "Student of the Year", where she became the winner in the nomination "Student of the Year – ONLINE".

The past year was marked by anniversary events in the Department of Cultural Affairs. Thus, on May 12, a festive event was held dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the National Theater "Collisée", and on November 30, a large anniversary concert of the National Brass Band was held, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the group. The events were held at a high performing level and united spectators of different generations. It is pleasant to note that graduates from previous years were present in the hall and on stage.

The year ended with beautiful festive events that have already become traditional. For example, on December 19, the students’ Christmas ball was held in the main building of BNTU. The event was organized by the Primary Trade Union Organization of BNTU Students and the Department of Cultural Affairs. This evening was particularly solemn: luxurious ballroom dresses, black tailcoats, magnificent music and endless twirling of couples to the rhythm of a waltz.  The rector of BNTU S. V. Kharitonchik welcomed the participants of the ball, and presented the best students with gratitude for their active participation in the cultural and social life of the university. The evening ended with a modern dance program.

For the third time, on the initiative of the rector's office, on the eve of the New Year, the Department of Cultural Affairs is preparing a New Year's performance for the children of BNTU employees and students, and on December 21, more than 300 children and university employees became participants of the "New Year's Tale".  Thanks to the wonderful acting, wonderful scenery, music and video accompaniment, colorful costumes and makeup, all the audience got into the fabulous world of the New Year's holiday. The performance was bright and emotional. Children and their parents actively participated in the interactive activities. After the end of the performance, the audience did not leave for a long time, taking pictures with the fairy-tale characters.

May 2024 be no less eventful, bring bright events and new victories!
