The history of the department "Industrial heat and power engineering and heat engineering" dates back to 1948, when the department "Theoretical and General Heat Engineering" was formed at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute (BPI, BSPA, BNTU). The first head of the department was Associate Professor, Ph.D. .L.Lyuboshits.In connection with the rapid development of the industry of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR), BPI enterprises needed specialists who could successfully solve the problems of energy efficiency (efficient use of energy in production). And in this regard, in 1961, the first enrollment in the specialty "Industrial Heat Power Engineering" was made, and in 1963, the department of the same name was opened at the Faculty of Energy. In 1987, both departments were merged under the general name "Industrial Heat Power Engineering and Heat Engineering". Over the past years, the heads of the mentioned departments were: Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor I.L. Lyuboshits, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor I.V. Moseev, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, Ph.D. and Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor A.I. Veinik, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Academician of the Belarusian Engineering Academy Professor Yu.A. Malevich, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, N.P. Zhmakin, Ph.D., Associate Professor E.V. Kravchenko, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor V.G. Bashtova.
Since 2002, the department has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V.A. Sednin. The department has trained over 4500 power engineers successfully working in various sectors of the economy of our country and abroad, incl. in the USA, Germany, France, Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary, Australia, Israel, in a number of countries in Asia and Africa. More than 100 candidates of technical sciences and 9 doctors of technical sciences have been trained by the department through postgraduate studies. The staff of the department prepared and published dozens of monographs, textbooks and manuals. Some of them have been translated into foreign languages. Contribution of professor, d.t.s. Nesenchuk A.P., as the creator of a complex of textbooks, was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in 1998 and awarded the degree of laureate. Many members of the department have undergone scientific internships at leading universities in the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Hungary, taught at the universities of India, Algeria, Madagascar, Cuba.Corresponding members of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Veinik Albert Iozefovich, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Stepanchuk Vladimir Fillipovich, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Anatoly Petrovich Nesenchuk, worked at the department, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Esman Ruslan Iosifovich, Doctor of Technical Sciences Alexander Sergeevich Kalinichenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Romanyuk Vladimir Nikanorovich. In 1978, a branch of the department was opened at the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer named after A.V. Lykov” of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, where at different times the employees of the Academy of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Martynenko O.G., Zhdanok S.A., corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Borodulya V.A., Vasiliev L.L., P.M. Kolesnikov, V.L. Dragoon. Currently, the branch of the department is headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences. Akulich P.V.Significant success of the staff of the department in research activities. The works of the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, professor, doctor of technical sciences received worldwide recognition. A.I. Veinik and his students - Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. R.I. Esman, Associate Professor, Ph.D. N.P. Zhmakina and others in the field of thermal theory of casting. Scientific works of professor, doctor of technical sciences A.P. Nesenchuk and his students - Doctor of Technical Sciences V.A. Sednina, Doctor of Technical Sciences V.N. Romanyuk, Ph.D. V.L. Shaton and others in the field of the theory of thermofluidized bed and its practical application, professor, doctor of technical sciences Malevich in the field of metallurgical heat technologies have found recognition both in our country and abroad.
Currently, teachers and staff of the department successfully support the scientific traditions of the older generation. At the department there are the Research and Innovation Center for Automated Control Systems in Heat Power Engineering and Industry (headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor A.V. Sednin) and the Research Laboratory of Thermal Physics and Heat Power Engineering (headed by Ph.D. V. A. Kalinichenko). Scientific research is being carried out and the latest achievements in the field of energy-efficient heat technologies, automated control systems, new composite materials with a macroheterogeneous structure, etc. are being introduced into production.Graduates of the department hold responsible positions of chief power engineers, heads of thermal engineering departments and services at enterprises of the fuel and energy complex, work as leading specialists, shift supervisors and technical laboratories, researchers in design research and development branch and academic institutes, teachers in educational institutions, specialists in industrial supervision bodies, and also head manufacturing firms. The knowledge gained during training at the department helps to solve complex industrial and scientific problems for graduates working in responsible positions, among which are such well-known names in the field of energy as E.F. Tovpenets, F.I. Molochko A.V. Sivak, V.N. Babey, G.I. Glazov, A.M. Brushkov and many, many others.Students studying at the department have the opportunity to engage in research activities, starting from the first year of study. Excellent performance during the period of study, combined with research work, participation in scientific and technical developments, participation in international and republican scientific conferences, and symposiums makes it possible to receive nominal and personal scholarships. Among the graduates of the department in recent years, one can note the scholarship holder of the scholarship of the President of the Republic of Belarus P.P. Kuzhir, scholarship holders of the scholarship to them. F.Skorina O.P. Khorolskaya, M.V. Kovalev M.V., T.S. Polyakov, V.V. Yanchuk. The department constantly cooperates with the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer named after A.V. Lykov" of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Joint Institute for Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Institute of Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus,
