A dream come true. Foreign graduate's story

Осуществилась мечта – стать инженером. История одного иностранного выпускника

My name is Johnson Ajayi Akinwande.

I was born in 1958 in Nigeria. Since childhood, I dreamed of becoming an engineer, and my dream came true thanks to BPI (BNTU) and a wonderful country - Belarus.

I attended Belarusian University, Minsk 1978/1979. I was posted to BPI 1979 to Automobile/ Tractor Faculty.

I lived in Hostel 4. I had great relationships with all of my classmates and teachers. It was very interesting to study, every day we learned something new. Those were unforgettable years! I still continue to communicate with some of my fellow students.

I graduated with MSc degree in 1984 with major in Automobile Engineering. I was given a price for promoting friendship between Nigeria and USSR. I returned to my country in July 1984.

I did my one year mandatory NYSC at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria 1984/1985. Then I worked briefly in Yaba College of Technology in 1986 and joined the services of University of Lagos in September 1986. I have been in University of Lagos till date.

I am happily married with two children. My daughter is a medical doctor and my son has PhD at Imperial College, London, he lives in London.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to visit Minsk and BNTU. I would really like to meet my friends and congratulate our beloved University on the 100th anniversary in person!

See you in Minsk!
