Today, July 12, the main application period for the 2026 admissions campaign began at the Belarusian National Technical University.
The main building of BNTU was bustling from early morning, welcoming its first visitors as early as 8:30 a.m. To make document submission more convenient, applicants no longer have to wait in lines. Students receive a ticket via a touchscreen and, along with their parents, wait their turn in chairs in the assembly hall of the main building.
For reference: BNTU plans to admit 3,828 first-year students this year, of which 3,173 will be funded by the state. Of these, 2,748 full-time and 425 part-time places are available. Admissions are being conducted across 56 specializations in 16 faculties.
For applicants' convenience, an improved electronic queuing system has been introduced this year, allowing for real-time tracking of application status. Andrey Safonov, Deputy Chairman of the Admissions Committee and First Vice-Rector of BNTU, spoke about this.
"Currently, over 600 people have registered in our online queue: there are no lines or crowds; everyone is evenly distributed among classrooms, applications are filled out, and then they are sent to their respective faculty admissions offices. We collaborated with a company that specializes in such things on this development and its implementation. Even for this company, this is a pilot project of this type. All of this was achieved through collaborative efforts. We are using the existing hardware that was offered to us, we analyzed it, and we are satisfied with it. Today we saw how it works in real-life conditions, but before that, we had been testing everything. Our main goal in this matter is to provide a comfortable and relaxed environment for applicants."
Also, the ranking table is updated daily on the Admissions Committee's official website, so that every applicant can quickly assess their chances.
On the first day, we met the most motivated students. One of them, applicant Ksenia, happily shared her emotions and plans with us:
"My emotions are a bit mixed right now. I've been through the college admissions process before, but I'm still very nervous and anxious about the outcome. I'm 50/50 confident in my abilities: even though I've already studied relevant subjects, nervousness can always lead to a stupid mistake, even on the simplest question. But this has been my long-time dream; I've been preparing for a long time and I'm desperate to pass. I decided to submit my documents on the very first day because it's Sunday. I'm from a different region, and it would have been more difficult to get away on a weekday. I plan to study to become a construction engineering teacher. My teachers have always been a role model for me. They showed me how to treat students, how to support and help even in matters unrelated to my studies. I've liked BNTU for a long time. At one point, I didn't go to 10th grade and even regretted it a little." So now, when I was offered other universities, I firmly answered: I only want to go to BNTU!
The number of people wanting to become part of the large Polytechnic family is growing by the hour. Applicant Victoria shared her story and impressions from the first day of application:
"I'm applying right now after college, so I'm not at all nervous. Higher education is essential for a good future. I decided to submit my documents on the first weekend, like many of my friends. I plan to study in the construction department, specializing in industrial and civil engineering. I already graduated from college in this field, and now I work as a construction technician, and I really like it. Although, when I first started studying, the specialization didn't immediately appeal to me. But then I started learning how houses are designed, how buildings are erected, where they come from in our city, and I realized it was interesting. Now I want to grow further and become an engineer. For me, BNTU is one of the largest and most significant universities; it's always on everyone's lips, so I decided to apply here without a second thought. Moreover, I've already been to an open day here, and today I was completely convinced of what a large and beautiful university it is. I'd especially like to commend the excellent organization of the admissions office: the electronic queuing system is very convenient. You take a ticket and calmly wait in an upbeat mood, completely free of stress.
The main stage of the admissions campaign is gaining momentum, and we continue to introduce you to future first-year students who have decided to dedicate their lives to BNTU. Applicant Anton shared his thoughts on why he chose the country's leading technical university:
— I'm a little nervous, since it's admissions, but overall, I'm very positive. I'm confident I'll pass: my scores aren't sky-high, but they are higher than last year's passing score, so I'm hoping for the best. I decided to apply on the very first day to be sure I have all the paperwork and to be able to immediately track the lists of applicants. I plan to enroll in the automotive engineering department, specializing in "Cars, tractors, mobile and technological systems. Automated vehicle design." This field is very close to my heart, and I want to work in it in the future. Mechanical engineering is a promising industry, which I think will remain so for the next 50 years. I genuinely love cars, and I want to thoroughly understand how they work. I chose BNTU because it's my favorite university in Belarus, plus it's close to home. I've attended open days at many universities, but this one seemed especially appealing to me: it has a very pleasant atmosphere and, crucially, a wide range of technical specializations.
Applications for state-funded places are accepted daily through July 17th from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM at 65 Nezavisimosti Ave. (Main Academic Building). Applications are accepted in room 501 via the RIKZ online queue, and in rooms 311, 403, 421, and 450 via the BNTU online queue (however, you must first take a ticket from the touchscreen and wait in line in the assembly hall on the third floor). You must bring a complete set of documents, a list of which is available on the Admissions Committee website.
