We continue to get acquainted with the finalists of the Mr. BNTU competition. On the way is the story of Yevgeny Lavrusik, a 1st-year student of the Faculty of Automotive Engineering. Kindness, sincerity, energy – these three words are the ones the finalist uses to describe his character. However, there is much more behind these words: the ability to set goals and achieve them independently, the willingness to try and not be afraid of making mistakes. In an interview, Evgeny spoke about how he earned money for his dream and how he ended up on the set of the film Fortress.
Evgeny admitted that there are three activities that can completely capture his attention and make him forget about time. Each of them is not just a hobby for him, but an opportunity for self-expression.
– Volleyball, construction, and dancing. Yes, it may seem like an unexpected combination for a student in the automotive engineering department, but I believe it perfectly reflects my personality.
– How do you see your ideal morning?
– My ideal morning consists of waking up in a fresh room in a great mood, followed by a delicious and hearty breakfast. Then, a walk in the fresh air or a workout in the gym. There is nothing more ideal than simplicity and taking care of your health.
– What small joy is guaranteed to lift your spirits on a bad day?
– There can be a million such little things, ranging from feeling good to having clean dishes in the dorm. But to summarize – meeting with a loved one, – shared Evgeny.
Everyone in life has that very act that you can be proud of. So, our finalist had it even before the university. Evgeny decided to go to the casting for the filming of the film “Fortress” directed by Elena Dubrovskaya.
– I stood in line with 1,500 people and in the end the director-producer decided to take me. The film itself was patriotic in nature, and when I showed this project at my alma mater, I felt proud to be a part of it.
The most important life lesson that Evgeny has learned through his experiences and wants to share with others is "Don't be afraid, never give up, and be kind."
Many young people go through a turning point in their lives when they want to become independent from their parents. Evgeny is no exception.
-I needed a laptop to study at university. I decided to earn money for it on my own. After calling dozens of employers, I found someone who responded. Soon, I was hired, and a month later, I bought what I wanted, proving to myself and my parents that I could fulfill my dreams on my own.
Sometimes, the most important lessons come from our failures. One of the student's "failures" was his inability to get into a music school.
"I think every boy would consider getting into a music school a failure, because they often want something extreme and active. When I accepted this, things didn't go as I had expected. In the Middle Ages, music was considered an elite pursuit, and some of this culture has survived to this day. My knowledge in this field proved useful in school. When I performed at school events, everyone knew about me. This helped me overcome my fear of being the center of attention at the time. I consider this to be my rise from failure.
- What was the most valuable advice you received that truly helped you achieve success?
– My grandfather once told me, “Don’t rush.” I’ve been following his advice ever since.
When asked what engineering solution the finalist used to prepare for the competition between classes and labs, Evgeny replied:
– I relied on conservative yet reliable preparation methods, as well as personal ingenuity and the support of my loved ones. It’s especially important that my performance will feature an unexpected plot twist that I hope will captivate every audience member. This is what gives me inspiration and motivation to move forward.
– What is more difficult for you: to learn 5 exam questions overnight or to put on a show?
– For me, learning 5 questions is much more difficult than preparing for the competition. After all, when your eyes are burning and you have ideas and desire, then it is easier to create something, – shared Evgeny.
