Today, January 17, the Belarusian National Technical University held an Open Opportunities Day (OOD). Part of this large-scale event included hundreds of prospective students and their accompanying parents, as well as staff from schools, gymnasiums, and lyceums.
The university campus began to fill with the curious gazes of applicants even before the official opening. The students started getting acquainted with the stands of enterprises – potential employers – and the university faculties. The exploration of engineering fields was followed by a ceremonial opening, which officially marked the start of the Open Opportunities Day.
The rector of BNTU, Sergey Kharytonchyk, addressed the applicants with a welcoming speech:
– Today's open day is an opportunity to communicate with companies, to learn about the conditions they will offer to future young specialists. For young people, this is a chance to immerse themselves in the profession, to find out what an engineer really is, how creative this profession is, how important it is for life, and how in demand it will be in the coming decades. I wish success to everyone, applicants, and parents, so that they can see the field that suits them and envision themselves in this profession. I wish success to employers, so that they can find the best young specialists, from whom future leaders and ministers will grow. I wish success to our faculties. They are waiting for the best students, and I believe that today they will see them.
At the opening of the Engineering Professions Festival, creative groups from the BNTU Department of Cultural Affairs also performed. The artists presented musical compositions and folk dances.
Afterward, visitors continued their journey into the world of engineering professions. Thematic quizzes, master classes, intellectual games, and tests helped prospective students understand all the advantages of technical fields. In addition, consultations were organized for applicants on admission issues, including targeted training programs, as well as free career guidance testing, which allowed students to narrow down their choices and find their calling among the many university specialties.
To get more acquainted with BNTU, prospective students were invited on tours of the faculties. They saw classrooms, laboratories, and research centers, where they could explore the equipment and understand what it’s like to be a student.
Slowing down and catching their breath was suggested to the attendees near the field kitchen or in the buffet. After having a snack, the guys watched the performance of the cadets from the Military-Technical Faculty. The young soldiers demonstrated hand-to-hand combat skills, which genuinely impressed the guests.
During their time at the university, the main people of the day – the applicants – shared their plans for admission. Having visited the leading technical university of the country on the Open Opportunities Day, Veronika noted the value of such an event for herself:
– I believe that Open Opportunities Day allows you to get acquainted with the modern specialties offered by the university and to determine the direction of your future profession. I am considering applying to BNTU and have currently decided on the economic direction.
Belarusian National Technical University was also chosen by Karina for her future studies.
– The university actually has a huge selection of majors. The staff explain the offered programs in detail, which makes it easier to choose. I am aiming for an education in economics, and in a technical university this will allow me to have skills both as an engineer and as an economist, which attracts me a lot, – the girl emphasized.
Today is Nikita's first time at BNTU. He has already attended the open days of other universities, so he has something to compare:
– If you compare BNTU with other universities, it stands out for its variety of engineering programs and the quality of education. Here, around the stands, the professors explain everything clearly and share information.
A pleasant bonus for applicants was the BNTU QUIZ – a quiz with questions about the Polytechnic. Three lucky participants who scored the highest points received university merchandise.
After announcing the quiz winners, a seminar with organizations – employers of personnel – “Targeted Training” began at BNTU. A report titled "Main Directions of Work with Key Enterprises and the Results of Admission under Targeted Training in 2025" was presented by Natallia Afanseyeva, Director of Institute of Integrated Forms of Education and Monitoring of Education (IIFEME).She noted that close integration of the university with real-sector enterprises allows for training specialists adapted to the requirements of modern production. Representatives of the enterprises – employers of personnel, in turn, expressed their readiness to expand cooperation.
The day of open opportunities concluded with master classes and consultations in the subjects of "Creativity," "Drawing," "Composition," "Technical Drawing," and "Painting." Interaction with teachers and practical advice in these disciplines allowed prospective students to fully prepare for the entrance exams.
The first day of open opportunities at BNTU in 2026 provided future students with answers to a large number of questions. The participants were able not only to explore the specialties and admission requirements but also to get a glimpse of university life through communication with its representatives. This eventful day helped many make an informed career choice. We look forward to meeting future polytechnic students again!
