Historic Moment: Alexander Lukashenko Inaugurated as President of Belarus

Исторический момент: Александр Лукашенко вступил в должность Президента Беларуси

Today, on March 25, the inauguration of the President of the Republic of Belarus took place. A significant day in the history of our country united thousands of citizens along the route of the motorcade, the main venue of the event and in an online format.

For reference: The oath of office of the President of the Republic of Belarus is given in a ceremonial setting in the presence of members of the Presidium of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, deputies of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic, judges of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts within two months from the date of election of the President.

According to the results of the elections held on 26 January this year, Alexander Lukashenko was elected President of the Republic of Belarus. A total of 5,136,293 votes were cast in favour of his candidacy, which is 86.82 per cent of the number of citizens who took part in the voting.

Today the presidential motorcade was solemnly welcomed along the two main avenues of Minsk - Independence and Pobediteley. Everyone who was in the city centre at that time was able to capture a significant moment in history. Students of the Belarusian National Technical University greeted the motorcade of the President as it drove along.

The opportunity to see the motorcade of the President of the Republic of Belarus in person is a significant event for students, as Maria, a student of the Faculty of Architecture, pointed out.

- Everything was organised at the highest level possible, thanks to which a pleasant atmosphere prevailed and the students were positively charged. I would like to thank the Belarusian National Technical University for the opportunity to see the motorcade of the President of the Republic of Belarus in person.

Upon arrival at the Palace of Independence, Alexander Lukashenko took the Oath of the President of the Republic of Belarus:

- Taking the Chair of the President of the Republic of Belarus, I swear to faithfully serve the people of the Republic of Belarus, respect and uphold the rights and freedoms of an individual and a citizen, to respect and abrogate the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, to honour and fulfil the high expectations imposed on me.

After that Alexander Grigorievich was presented with the certificate of the President of the Republic of Belarus.

More than 1,100 people were invited to the inauguration at the Palace of Independence. The ceremony was also live broadcasted on the website of the head of state and all national TV channels. Viewers were able to see the ceremony in the smallest details thanks to a record number of TV cameras. More than 60 cameras, including those installed along the route of the presidential motorcade. BNTU teachers and staff were also able to watch the live broadcast in the assembly hall of the main building of Polytech.

- For every country that wants a happy future for itself and its descendants, having a responsible and efficient President is very important. Therefore, today is an important event for every Belarusian, - said Polina, a third-year student of the automotive engineering faculty.

From the Palace of Independence, the Head of State went to the State Emblem and Flag Square. It is symbolic that this was the place where the military personnel took the oath of allegiance to the Belarusian people and the President of the Republic of Belarus.

- It is our duty, the duty of people in uniform, to strengthen the defence of the country and protect our native land from any encroachments,’- said Alexander Lukashenko.

The inauguration of the President of the Republic of Belarus is a ceremony characterised by restrained solemnity and deep meaning. This event marks the beginning of a new stage in the life of the country.

According to Alexander Grigorievich, the time of new victories is coming.
