On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in St. Petersburg, Rector of the Belarusian National Technical University Sergei Kharytonchyk and Rector of the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II Vladimir Litvinenko signed an agreement on the establishment of an International Competence Center in Mining Education under the auspices of UNESCO on the basis of the Belarusian National Technical University.
For reference: The International Competence Center in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO was established in 2018 and is based at the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II.
The signing of the agreement was preceded by many years of experience in joint activities of the two universities. In particular, these are double degree programs, the organization of internships for students at specialized departments and training sites together with companies, as well as joint educational programs, internships and advanced training courses for teachers and graduate students.
During the cooperation, significant results have also been achieved in the field of introducing research and development into production aimed at import substitution, rational use of resources and energy conservation.
Close collaboration led to the creation of the center on the basis of the “Polytechnic”. The parties identified one of its main functions as promoting the development of ideas and innovations. Today, this is the cornerstone of cooperation for the Union State.
Further joint work on educational and scientific integration will be carried out under the auspices of UNESCO.
