Спорт в БНТУ от А до Я

Polytech is a diverse university, where you can develop in many directions. One of them is sport.

‘Health is not everything, but without health everything is nothing’ - this statement of Socrates accurately describes how important it is to take care of one's health. In the life of every person, including students, there are plenty of negative factors that have a detrimental effect on health. Sport certainly helps to cope with the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy food consumption and stressful situations.

Sections at the university

At the moment there are 22 sports sections at the Belarusian National Technical University, where you can practice various kinds of sports. The current list of sports sections, where you can practice in the coming year, has been compiled in the table below.

Every student can find both a hobby and an honorable place in the university team, showing his/her skills and abilities in the classes. The strongest students form university teams that take part in sporting events at university, city and national levels.

Recruitment to the sections has already started.

Sporting events

BNTU hosts a huge amount of sporting events that encourage students to follow a healthy lifestyle. During such events students not only show their sporting skills, but also get an opportunity to get acquainted with the university, plunge into the sporting life of Politech and, of course, defend the honour of their faculty.

The most colourful events are Poliquest, the Health Day sports festival, and the Six Cup.

Poliquest

Polyquest is organised for first year students. Each faculty is represented by a team of six people.

First-year students need to pass the route around the BNTU campus as fast as possible. At the checkpoints, interesting and diverse quests are prepared for the participants, which are related to each faculty of the university.

Health Day

The Health Day sports festival is attended by both students and employees of the university, who do not mind showing off their skills in various sports.

Participants of the event compete in such disciplines as chess, swimming, table tennis, darts, basketball and biathlon. Each participant gets unforgettable emotions and new acquaintances.

Cup of Six

Six faculties take part in the ‘Cup of Six’, which rotate each year. Each faculty gathers teams that will compete in such sports as football, basketball, volleyball and others.

Last year the cup was won by the Faculty of Transport Communications.

Outstanding athletes of BNTU

Polyteh is in no shortage of students and graduates who reach significant heights in their sporting careers. Some of them are Anton Smolsky, Evgeny Tikhontsov and Maxim Tsaruk.

Anton Smolsky is a student of the instrumentation engineering faculty of BNTU, biathlete, silver medallist of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing 2022, silver and bronze medallist of the World Cup stages.

Evgeny Tikhontsov, a student of the Faculty of Sport and Technology, became the world champion in the double event with the result of 398 kg (180kg + 218kg). Evgeny also represented our country at the Olympic Games in Paris, where he became a bronze medallist in two exercises - 402 kg (183 kg + 219 kg) and won two silvers in separate exercises: in snatch with the result of 180 kg (set a new record of Belarus) and in push with the result of 218 kg.

Maksim Tsaruk is a student of the Faculty of Information Technologies and Robotics. He has been awarded the titles of ‘International Master’ in 2023 and ‘FIDE Master’ in 2019.

Sport is not only about competing and achieving goals, but also a tool for maintaining health and strengthening the spirit. By supporting students in their pursuit of sporting achievements and actively promoting healthy lifestyles, BNTU demonstrates that caring for the physical and mental well-being of students is one of the most important priorities.

Polytech is in favor of a healthy lifestyle, because only in a sound body lives a sound spirit.
