From May 20 to May 21,2024 the FOOTBALL CUP-24 cyber tournament was held at BNTU on the basis of the METAL-ARENA cyber sports arena. 32 students of the Polytechnic University competed for the title of the best player.
It's no secret that cyber tournaments around the world have long been recognized as real sports competitions, and there are many competitions that thousands of people want to watch, filling sports stadiums and streaming services. The question "Can I play video games with my friend and get prizes for it?" It isn't a joke, because FOOTBALL CUP-24 is a competition for the best mastery of the EA SPORTS FC–24 computer game.
For reference: EA SPORTS FC-24 is a series of football simulators previously known as FIFA, dating back to 1993. The first game of the series was FIFA International Soccer. It offered a fairly simple football with an isometric view. However, even this was considered an achievement since other games used an overhead view that deprived what was happening of the resemblance to a television broadcast. In other words, FIFA has always been famous for its gameplay and attracted public attention. Today, EA SPORTS FC-24 is a cult computer game that has united several generations.
The tournament was held at BNTU for the second time. It was first held in 2021 under the name BNTU FIFA CUP. Since then a lot has changed in the conduct and conditions of the event, but the main organizer of the competition has remained constant is Belarusian Republican Youth Union.
By drawing lots the participants were divided into 12 football teams. The format of the competition was a take-off game, which means that each participant had only one chance to prove himself in the esports arena. Despite this the guys did a great job, creating strong competition.
– FOOTBALL CUP-24 is an important event in the life of the Youth Union, because esports competitions at the university are eagerly awaited. Such events contribute to the cohesion of student youth and the development of teamwork among the participants. We can say that the cups have become a good tradition, – said Vladislav Korolyuk, Deputy Secretary for the Belarusian Republican Youth Union.
For two days the guys had an interesting time, talked, laughed and much more, but don’t forget that the event was still competitive. According to the results of all the matches played, the prizes were distributed as follows:
