BNTU – choosing the best: the eighteenth story

БНТУ – выбор лучших: история восемнадцатая

The new material of the column "BNTU – the choice of the best" is dedicated to Anna Afanasyeva, a student of the Faculty of Architecture.

Before applying to the Belarusian National Technical University, the girl was tormented by one, but very important question for her: "Designer or architect?"After weighing the pros and cons, Anna made a choice in favor of a second profession and as she didn’t regret it at all.

– At one time, my mother studied at BNTU, so I was very familiar with this university in my school years. However, despite her dream of becoming an architect, she graduated from another faculty. Thinking about my future profession, I decided to fulfill my mother's dream and as it later turned out, the ideal of the profession coincided with her.

–  What were the first months at the university for you?

–  In the beginning it was quite difficult, because being alone in a big city is very disturbing. As a rule, it is important for an architect to be not only creative, but also persevering. I had to work hard on this character trait. I associate the first half-year with a huge amount of information that needed to be remembered and at the same time with new subjects, such as architectural composition. In general, the first months were interesting for me and during this time I have fully integrated into student life.

Among other things, she has unusual skills and hobbies. She is a candidate for Master of Sports in orienteering, participated in international competitions in this sport in Italy, Latvia, Russia, Poland and other countries, and she  is a professional athlete in the third generation.

– My parents, who are also athletes, brought me to the sport and my grandmother who is a coach. From that moment the map and the compass became my good friends. I liked to go through unknown places, studying the terrain and nature of the area and successfully resorting to the finish line.

–  What attracts you the most about orienteering?

– Thanks to orienteering I develop not only physical, but also intellectual skills. That's why I like this sport, it allows me to stay in good shape for the body and brain.

Like many professionals, Anna has her own source of inspiration for successful self-realization in sports. For the student, these are the achievements of her idols: Swiss orienteers Simone Abersold and Tove Alexandersson.

The girl's goals for the future are really ambitious. In the future, she will aspire to become a master of sports and at the same time acquire the skills of a talented and knowledgeable architect.

We thank Anna for the interview and wish her success both in sports and in her studies.
