In the 15th article of the heading "BNTU – the choice of the best" we tell about the first-year student of FITR Matvey Melkovich, who not only shows success in sports and acting, but also became the owner of the title "Mr. BNTU – 2024".
Previously in an interview “This is Mister!” Matvey has already talked about admission and choosing a university. Today we decided to find out about his impressions of studying and plans for the future.
– The profession of a programmer is very interesting and multifaceted. In class, when you see all these numbers, you really want to figure them out faster and turn them into something new. That is why I am happy that I have chosen this particular specialty, at my faculty and at BNTU. In the future, I would like to integrate my profession and sports.
– If there was an opportunity to enter another university, would you?
- No. It would only be BNTU. I did not consider other educational institutions and did not hesitate for a second when enrolling. Even now, having studied for almost two semesters, I don’t know a single university where studying and vibrant student life are so tightly intertwined.
The guy mentioned his active student life for a reason: the title of Mr. BNTU - 2024 is still with him. Alternating between studying, filming and preparing for the competition, Matvey initially approached each activity responsibly. Of course, he shared his secrets of time management with us.
– Indeed, even at the start, I realized that in some cases I would have to combine the incompatible. If we talk about time management, I have one strict rule that I follow: you need to love what you do. If you have several important tasks scheduled for the day and you don't want to do at least one of them, then all the others will go downhill. In this regard, I really enjoyed interacting with the organizers of the "Mr. BNTU" contest, because the guys always did their best and helped me coordinate the schedule of rehearsals and activities.
– Would you like to become one of the organizers of the competition next year?
- Of course, yes. Most likely, I would like to act as an organizer of activities and a mentor for the guys, be their mentor and support them at every stage.
On the raised topic, by the way, Nikita Katok, one of the organizers of the competition, chairman of the Primary Trade Union Organization (PTUO) of Students of the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Ecology, gave his comment and a small spoiler.
– We will be glad to see Matvey among the organizers, but next year we have an interesting idea: We would like to implement the "title defense" so that the guys could not only prove once again that they are worthy of it, but also once again plunge into an unforgettable atmosphere, but with the acquired experience.
The bright finale took place on March 25, and immediately after, a video of Matvey’s performance on TikTok instantly spread among users. Each video received more than 500,000 views. In this regard, we took the liberty of asking the young man one of the main questions that now worries not only BNTU students, but also hundreds of thousands of viewers
– How did you manage to stage such a large-scale creative performance?
– I learned the dance quite quickly, but the overall picture would not have worked out without my team. I couldn't have done it without my support group, the Ice Girl team. I met their captain Natasha at a hockey clothing shoot, and then, when I needed to stage a creative performance, I wrote to her and offered to try it. Natasha agreed and with the help of the whole team we managed to create something unreal. In addition, it is impossible to evaluate the contribution of my colleague on the shooting, BNTU graduate Ilya Prokopovich. He helped stage the performance, gave his edits and comments, and constantly supported.
Ilya Prokopovich, soloist of the Youth Variety Theater, author and performer, theater and film actor, graduate of BNTU, in turn, also gave a comment.
– Matvey was really result-oriented, so he was ready to sacrifice sleep and personal time to achieve it, which was already not enough, since he is taking part in the filming of our new film project. With great desire in his eyes, he generated many interesting creative solutions and in symbiosis, in addition to the title of "Mr. BNTU – 2024", we received millions of views on social networks.
Now Matvey is involved in the filming of a movie, and he gave the last interview right from the set. About how the path to the film industry began, the guy told the following:
– Today I have two film projects in my portfolio: “I am a Bear” and “A Hook”, which are still being shot. Both films are about hockey, and when the casting for “I Am a Bear” was announced, a lot of guys advised me to try myself in this project. I decided to do just that and passed the casting. When filming began, I could barely fit sleep into my schedule. The fact is that the shooting took place at the time of my transition from children's youth school to the major league. So it turned out that during the day I worked hard on the ice like an athlete, and then acted in films on the same site. Nevertheless, this experience became very valuable, and the filming process dragged on and did not let go.
– How much did your opinion about cinema change when you became a part of it?
“First of all, I realized how difficult it is to work in this industry. At first glance, it seems that it is not difficult to turn around in the frame, say something or portray an emotion, but in reality, more than 20 takes can be filmed for each minimal action. In addition, now when watching films I not only follow the plot, but also analyze the frames, think about which take this or that scene was filmed from.
At the end of the interview, we decided to leave a message to future participants in “Mr. BNTU” contest. Matvey explained why everyone should take part in the competition.
– Firstly, these are emotions: the ones we received during the activity, and then during the finals, I experienced only twice in my life. Secondly, because every student deserves it. Each student is a Mr. in his own way and you should not miss the opportunity to show yourself from a new, sometimes unexpected side.
