On February 15, in honor of the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers, a solemn funeral laying of flowers by students of BNTU SF hostel No. 15 took place on the Island of Courage and Sorrow.
– The war in Afghanistan, through which about 30 thousand Belarusians went through, became a special page in our history. Both tragic and heroic, where every line is imbued with a feeling of deep respect for every Soviet soldier who passed through those dusty military roads, – said the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Belarus Andrei Kuntsevich. – The world is still feeling the consequences of what happened in Afghanistan and is trying to fight it. These are international terrorism, drug trafficking, civil strife, fierce confrontation between world powers. All these concepts are relevant today, but it was then that people began "Seriously resist this. The Belarusian Afghan soldiers invested their strength in this. They fulfilled their soldier's duty with honor, becoming a true example of service to the Motherland.
