Today, on September 17, the Republican Dictation in the Belarusian language, dedicated to the Day of National Unity, was held at the Belarusian National Technical University. The event has been traditionally held since 2021 in all schools and universities of the Republic of Belarus. Students had to write a text about the holiday under dictation.
This year, the dictation was held in an online format, and the text was read by Belarusian blogger Andrei Maksimov. The text describes the historical events of the Republic of Belarus: the division of Belarus in 1921 and the reunification of the western and eastern lands in 1939.
First‑year students of the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology shared their emotions after writing the dictation. For example, Kirill Kontsevoy noted that it was pleasant for him to hear the text in his native language.
— I remember the dictation text because it was written in Belarusian and was dedicated to the Day of National Unity, which is celebrated today in the Republic of Belarus. The emotions from the event were only positive, because everything was clear. I believe that organizing such events is very important, because it unites all the youth of the country and evokes a sense of patriotism.
In turn, for Vladislava Tishkova, the event allowed her to test her knowledge of Belarusian orthography.
— Participating in the event gave me a whole range of emotions. Firstly, the text was very interesting, and I enjoyed writing it. Secondly, I liked how the author described the unity of the Belarusian people. I recommend that other students take part in such an interesting and engaging event, which allows them to test their knowledge of the Belarusian language.
The Republican Dictation at BNTU was not just a test of knowledge, but a real lesson in historical memory. The students not only recalled the rules of spelling in the Belarusian language, but also gained a deeper understanding of the value of national unity.
