On September 16, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogics (FEP) of BNTU held a patriotic event to mark National Unity Day of the Republic of Belarus. In anticipation of this national holiday, the faculty administration and student body organized a themed film evening for students entitled "Historical Memory – the Code of Unity." The main venue for the event was Room 7 of BNTU Dormitory 16, which for one evening was transformed into a makeshift cinema with a deep, intimate atmosphere.
For reference: National Unity Day is one of the newest and most ideologically significant holidays in sovereign Belarus. It symbolizes historical justice, the continuity of generations, and the unity of the Belarusian people for the sake of a peaceful future. The essence of the film evening was not simply the screening of historical footage, but the creation of an interactive educational and developmental platform for young people. Through visual art and subsequent dialogue, the event helped students understand how Belarusian national identity has evolved over the centuries. What turning points have become key points of national unity. And why preserving historical truth today is not simply a tribute to the past, but the foundation of national security and sovereignty.
The film evening's script was designed to transform complex historical material into a vibrant reflection. First, the organizers created the necessary context, recalling the essence of National Unity Day. The documentary film shown next served as an excellent catalyst for the thought process: the filmmakers vividly illustrated the connections between generations and the points of national unity. The evening concluded with an open discussion. It demonstrated that today's youth are capable of more than just passively consuming video content; they can deeply analyze what they see. Students discussed the role of cultural codes, the importance of family memory, and how historical lessons help today's youth confidently face the future.
Pavel Gorbylev, a first-year student at the Institute of Applied Physics, shared his impressions of the film evening :
"The documentary gave me a lot to think about. Historical memory isn't just paragraphs in a textbook; it's what holds us together as a nation. During the discussion, we talked about the connection between generations, and I caught myself thinking: our grandfathers and great-grandfathers did everything so that today we could study peacefully and make plans. Now it's our turn to preserve these traditions. Evenings like these are so necessary—they help us break away from the daily grind and realize our responsibility to the past and the future."
This evening was made possible thanks to the coordinated efforts of the entire faculty family. The event confirmed a simple but eternal truth: national unity begins with small steps—with the ability to listen to one another, remember one's roots, and create the future together. This evening served as an excellent launchpad for a whole series of celebratory events dedicated to National Unity Day.
