Uzbek students of BNTU in the Brest Fortress

Узбекские студенты БНТУ в Брестской крепости

On the eve of Victory Day on May 8, the Belarusian-Uzbek Institute of Applied Technical Qualifications together with the FMS organized an excursion to Brest for Uzbek students studying at BNTU. In Uzbekistan this great and holy holiday for all peoples of the former Soviet Union is celebrated as a Day of Remembrance and Honour.
The program included a visit to the memorial complex "Brest Fortress-Hero" and a walk along one of the most beautiful pedestrian streets in Belarus.
  In the memorial complex "Brest Fortress-Hero" there was a sightseeing tour of the Brest Fortress Defense Museum and the territory of the memorial. The tour covered the Museum of Defense of the Brest Fortress (1956), which is located in the restored part of the Citadel defense barracks.  In the 10 halls are presented about 4 thousand exhibits, which introduces the history of the construction of the fortress, the events of World War I (1914-1918), the history of the city and the fortress as part of Poland (1921-1939), the heroism and courage of participants in the defense of the Brest Fortress in June-July 1941.

Then the tour continued through the territory of the Central Island - the Citadel.

Sculptural compositions and monuments to defenders of the Citadel:

"Thirst" sculpture;
the central monument "Courage";
in front of the obelisk "Bayonet" in three rows are tombstones of the heroes buried there;
Ceremonial Square and the Eternal Flame.

Structures and ruins left by the war:

White Palace;
Holm's Gate;
Garrison Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker;
The ruins of the ring barracks building.

The detailed tour of the fortress was interesting and fascinating, the experienced guide also told about the heroic and tragic pages of the history of the Belarusian and Soviet people, gave numerous examples of courage, steadfastness of the defenders of the fortress.

At the end of the trip was a walk along a pedestrian street, which is almost two kilometers long. Previously, Sovetskaya Street was called Millionnaya Street, Poliskaya Street, Dombrowski Street, and even Generalstrasse.

On Sovetskaya street are located many attractions of the city. These are St. Nicholas Church, pre-revolutionary buildings, including the former building of the Alekseevskaya Gymnasium, and modern sculptures: the monument of the Millennium of Brest, a monument to the purse, the boot of wealth, the sculptural composition "Old Year". There is also a building of pharmacy Greenberg, which was built in 1925.  The uniqueness of this house is that despite the time and historical twists and turns, there has always been a pharmacy here until today.
