The Department of Russian and Belarusian Languages was established in October 1964.
For 61 years, the "Belarusian and Russian Languages" department has been conducting pedagogical activities for the education and upbringing of foreign citizens. Currently, the department is headed by Irina Vladimirovna Budzko.
In 1993, the department was renamed the "Belarusian and Russian Languages" department and began teaching the Belarusian language to university students of all specializations and Russian as a foreign language to international students and trainees of BNTU.
Highly qualified teachers provide training for future specialists for the Republic of Belarus and foreign countries. The department's teaching staff undergo internships at leading universities in Belarus and Russia. In teaching students, the department utilizes the work experience of its staff in Algeria, Senegal, the USA, Cuba, England, Germany, Kampuchea, Vietnam, and other countries.
International graduates of the university who have studied at the department over 61 years number more than 7,000 trainees, students, interns, and PhD candidates from over 100 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America.
