Educational and Methodological Conference "Theory and Practice of Teaching Languages in a Non-Humanities Universities: Current Issues and Development Prospects"
On December 28, 2021, the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages hosted an educational and methodological conference, "Theory and Practice of Language Teaching at a Non-Humanities University: Current Issues and Development Prospects." The conference aimed to summarize the methodological and research work of BNTU administrators, researchers, and faculty.
The conference served as a venue for faculty from the Belarusian and Russian Languages Department to meet and actively exchange experiences on current issues in linguistics and linguodidactics within the following areas:
The conference was opened by P.I. Shirvel, Dean of the Faculty of International Cooperation and Associate Professor, PhD in Physics and Mathematics. He welcomed the participants and wished them fruitful work and continued creative success.
At the plenary session, Head of the Belarusian and Russian Languages Department, Associate Professor I.V. Budko, PhD in Philology, spoke about the activities of the language department at the technical university, including its challenges, objectives, achievements, and development prospects. Also presenting at the plenary session were Associate Professor V.V. Belyy, PhD in Philology; Associate Professor I.V. Savitskaya, PhD in Philology; Senior Lecturer S.V. Kotikova-Sabaida; and Lecturer A.I. Bogdanova.
The conference participants' presentations were divided into four sections:
Section 1. Current issues of linguistics and methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language in a technical university ( chairman – V.V. Bely , Ph.D. in Philology, associate professor; deputy chairperson – S.V. Kotikova-Sabaida, senior lecturer).
Section 2. Innovative technologies for teaching Russian as a foreign language in a technical university ( chairperson – Yu.A. Smirnova, senior lecturer; deputy chairperson – A.G. Belaya, senior lecturer).
Section 3. Current issues of linguistics and methods of teaching the Belarusian language in technical universities ( chairman – Budko I.V., PhD in Philology, associate professor ; deputy chairperson – Savitskaya I.V., PhD in Philology, associate professor).
Section 4. Problems of teaching exact sciences to foreign students in the preparatory department ( chairman – Gorbachevsky D.A., Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics , associate professor; deputy chairperson – Zaitseva P.A., lecturer).
International Student Conference "First Step into Science"
On December 21, 2021, the Faculty of International Cooperation hosted the first international student conference, "First Step into Science," which was attended by international students, master's students, postgraduate students, and attendees studying at our university.
Vice-Rector for Research, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor Aleksandr Mikhailovich Maliarevich, and Dean of the Faculty of International Cooperation, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor Pavel Ivanovich Shirvel, delivered welcoming remarks at the opening of the conference. Head of the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Irina Vladimirovna Budko also welcomed the conference participants, emphasizing in her speech the value and historical significance of education, the solidarity and mutual support that has reigned among students since time immemorial, and the important social function that young people, striving for knowledge and possessing enormous scientific and creative potential, have always fulfilled.
Veronika Vadimovna Abduazizova, Doctor of Sciences and Associate Professor, Head of the Graduate Department of the Namangan Civil Engineering Institute (Namangan, Uzbekistan), spoke at the conference with a report presenting the latest advances in teaching methods for specialized university disciplines.
The official part of the plenary session was opened by Zeynab Avada, a graduate student at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of Lebanon (supervised by Associate Professor I.V. Budko), who presented a report on the image of Lebanon in the Bible and the significance of her homeland and the artifacts found there for the entire Christian world. The next presentation was by Shahzoda Kamolova from Uzbekistan (3rd year, Faculty of Philosophy of the Academy of Philosophy), "The Image of Uzbekistan in the Works of Yakub Kolas" (supervised by Senior Lecturer N.L. Makarenko). The presentation included interesting facts from the biography of the great poet, including his stay in Uzbekistan during the evacuation and the kindness and hospitality of the Uzbek people. Finally, Shahzoda Kamolova recited a poem by Yakub Kolas about her homeland. Yakub Kolas's grandson, Konstantin Mikhailovich Mitskevich, a senior lecturer in the Belarusian and Russian Languages Department and a full namesake of his great grandfather, shared family memories of this amazing pearl of Central Asia and read excerpts from Yakub Kolas's personal correspondence about the difficult wartime days. A report by Loikov Ramazon (3rd year, Faculty of Economics) from Tajikistan (supervised by Senior Lecturer T.S. Makatrova) analyzed the status of the Russian language in his country and the linguistic situation in some cities of Tajikistan. Ghazaleh Mohammad Hassan, a second-year student at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics (FITR) from Lebanon, presented a report on the history of the Lebanese flag and the profound symbolic significance of the Lebanese cedar depicted on the national flag (supervised by Lecturer A.I. Bogdanova). Third-year student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Telecommunications, Ruslan Arazklychev (supervised by senior lecturer Sabaida S.V.), spoke about the state symbols of Turkmenistan, their history and significance for its people in his report.
Ali Alirav Mohamed Eldemerdash, a student in the preparatory department for foreign citizens, recently arrived in our country from Egypt. He has only been studying Russian for two months, so he delivered his presentation in English. He presented an overview of the development of nuclear energy worldwide, including its advantages and disadvantages (supervised by E.V. Berezhnova). All presentations were warmly received by the faculty and students in attendance.

The conference was a success and became a scientific platform for discussing current issues in the comparative study of foreign languages (linguistic and sociocultural aspects).
Nearly all necessary requirements for the presentation and content of the papers were met. The information presented in the conference participants' papers was collected, systematized, and processed under the supervision of the department's faculty. All papers were accompanied by presentations and can serve as the basis for further research on the chosen topic.
Section 2: Current Issues in Cultural Studies and Regional Studies
At the section meeting, reports were presented by students of 1st-3rd years of study at the Faculty of Technical Regulation and Management, Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Technical Communications and Faculty of Social Sciences.
Myth and reality intertwined in the presentations by Unur Zhamyapurov from Mongolia and Alli Marwan from Yemen, who delivered fascinating presentations on modern Mongolian shamans and the mythical heroes of Ancient Egypt. Fuad Sherif spoke about modern Egypt, its historical and architectural heritage, its extraordinary nature, and cuisine, and introduced the participants to some of the peculiarities of his native language.
Students from Uzbekistan, Bekzod Ismailov, Akmal Khodjaev, and Sunnat Dildabekov, spoke about the peculiarities of the national character, so succinctly reflected in Uzbek proverbs, about their great compatriots, and about famous Russian poets and writers whose fates are connected with Uzbekistan.
Section 3: Geographical position, culture and development characteristics of the countries of Asia and Latin America
The section "Geographical Position, Culture, and Developmental Features of Asian and Latin American Countries" was attended by 53 participants—students, undergraduates, and graduate students. Fifteen participants delivered papers and presentations. All papers were informative, and the presentations were vibrant and engaging. They generated considerable interest among those present. The papers "Flora and Fauna of Colombia" (Sofia Martinez Santos, Colombia) and "China: Hot Chongqing and Cold Inner Mongolia" (He Lin and Yang Yixin, China) attracted the most attention.
The section concluded with song and dance performances by a group of PO listeners from Ecuador.
Section 4: China: Features of Nature, Culture, and Language
Section 4, entitled "China: Peculiarities of Nature, Culture, and Language," was held in room 206. Its work differed from the other sections in that it was held online and featured presentations by Chinese students from both the preparatory department and students from the Hefei University of Technology participating in a joint educational program.
All the prepared reports were presented at a high level, showcasing China's cultural, historical, and natural features from a variety of perspectives. Participants watched a Chinese tea ceremony, discovered the distinctive national dress of various provinces, learned more about traditional Chinese medicine, and learned about the holidays celebrated by the people of China. One of the most important aspects of Chinese culture—language—was also highlighted. Zhang Fan, a preparatory student, delivered a report titled "Characteristics of the Chinese Language," in which she clearly and understandably explained the complexity of the Chinese language and why the Chinese character system has such profound meaning.
Since this section was held remotely, it is worth noting that all speakers prepared multimedia accompaniments for their presentations, demonstrating not only a good level of proficiency in Russian but also a high level of training in information technology.

We invite you to take part in the Scientific and Practical Conference of foreign students, students, and postgraduates studying at BNTU, " The First Step into Science ."
Problematic field of the conference :
- messages about your home country, its culture, famous people, history, significant events, and landmarks; the message must be accompanied by a presentation; the presentation may be in your native language, but in this case, the slides must be accompanied by text in Russian (this section is intended for students in the preparatory department);
- issues of special terminology and comparison of terms in Russian and native languages (construction, architectural terminology, terminology of mining, mechanical engineering, automotive industry, etc.);
- comparison of facts of two (or more) languages (for example, names of kinship, color designations, phraseological units, the lexical-semantic field of request/prohibition, apology/encouragement, time, etc.);
- analysis of translations into Russian of works by famous authors of national literature (possibly within the limits of one poem or a small fragment of text);
- the status of the Russian language in the speaker’s home country (e.g. China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, etc.);
- Russian language in the Internet space, your Russian-language page on social networks, etc.

Competition of creative works of students in the Belarusian language “Leaves, leaves …”
In this educational year, the department of Belarusian and Russian language developed a traditional competition of creative works of students in the Belarusian language in the form of a competition for flat sheets. On the 13th of the snow there was a ceremony of famous characters (there are 24 of them!) and the audience, on which all the grams, indistinct paragraphs and complete words of padzyak were present. It was interesting: these are the current students who made frequent and short comments, likes, emoticons and text messages, on the right hand side of the competition and it would seem like hell Is their form like a leaf?
And our students of Chargovy times patsverdzili: BNTU students are creative people! Whoever touched their sheets! To the General Sakratar of the Arganizatsy Ab'yadnayakh Natsy and Karaleva Victory, Barbara Radzivil and Conan Doyle, Maxim Bagdanovich, Martians and distant ancestors, Dzed Maroz, Ilan Mask, Mary and Muse... Sagrel Sir the fortunes and veterans of the Vyalikay Aichynaya war, and those who are caught on my toes, but still alive in memory of ours. I understand, the amount of leaves and people and the closest, dearest people - and members of your family. The addresses were like our students themselves, as well as fictional, fantastic characters. There were sheets from the front, hell zakahanaga robata, navat hell kata... The scale of work for the competition was written by themselves - their future selves and their past selves. Sheets of prose and vertices, humorous and public-spirited, lyrical, tragic, dramatic, humanitarian, puffy and watchful - in words, a rich spectrum of form, farb, genre, I am suffering and experiencing.

Radok from the top of Rygor Baradulina ў named the getai natakі adlustroўvae tematyku traditsyynaga competition of creative works of BNTU students in the Belarusian language, as it has been more than twenty years since the right department of the Belarusian і Russian language The competition for justice has two stages (semesters) and the ceremonial recognition of the winners has ended. Regardless of the fact that BNTU is a technical VNU, the competition is aimed at students, because neither fantasy, nor genre, nor the volume of work is limited by anything. This educational year, the winners and winners of the competition included 219 students!
This department had the most important advancing themes: 1. From the history of the great family (traditional theme). 2. “Only the words cold peўnastsi akoў do not fall” (V. Senior Researcher of the Department of Belarusian and Russian Language Lyudmila Girutskaya
On June 13, 2018, staff from the Humanities and Education Department of the BNTU Scientific Library, together with faculty from the Belarusian and Russian Languages Department at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, held the event "Reading Pushkin Together," dedicated to Russian Language Day. International students and graduate students recited poems and excerpts from the great Russian poet's poems.
The event was attended by students of the preparatory department of the UMS and FEA from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Turkmenistan, Ecuador, China... The foreign citizens studying at BNTU recited the poems "You and You" (Kaddur Hasan from Lebanon), "I loved you" (Khojamyrodov Hakberdi from Turkmenistan), "Bird" (Segovia Paula from Ecuador), "Rose" (Slaiman Mohammad from Lebanon), "Flower" (Zahra Hussein from Iraq), "On the hills of Georgia..." (Al-Janabi Musadaq from Iraq), "I remember a wonderful moment" (Shen Yuzhe from China), "Signs" (Agalu Kamal from Iran), "If life deceives you" (Wang Ruoyuan, Luo Xingbo from China), excerpts from "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish" (Ricardo Tatamues from Ecuador). Each participant in the impromptu poetry evening excitedly tried to read the chosen poem as well as possible.
Irina Petrovna, a specialist at the Ivanova Scientific Library, spoke to those present about Pushkin and some of the fascinating facts of his biography. She also presented a short presentation for each poem read. The poetry readings were accompanied by a specially prepared video.
All those present listened with great pleasure to the musical pieces written to the poet’s verses.
The staff of the Scientific Library have prepared an exhibition of editions of A.S. Pushkin's works, some of which are now considered bibliographic rarities.
