Research work

The main directions of the department's scientific activity for 2026-2030 are: 

1. Work on the state-budget funded topic "Professionally Oriented Language Teaching Using Corpus Linguistics Technologies."
2. Participation in the State Program of Scientific Research "Socio-Economic and National-Cultural Security of Belarusian Statehood" (subprogram "Linguistics"), carrying out research work "Syntax of the Sacred Text in Russian and Belarusian: History and Current State."
3. Participation in international and republican scientific-practical conferences, seminars, and round tables on current issues of Russian and Belarusian linguistics, and methods of teaching languages in higher educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus.
4. Preparation of textbooks and scientific articles on current issues of Russian and Belarusian linguistics.

 The use of scientific research results allows for increased effectiveness in teaching disciplines such as "Russian as a Foreign Language" and "Belarusian Language (Professional Lexis)," improves student comprehension of the studied material, deepens theoretical knowledge in the subjects taught in courses, expands understanding of the lexical and terminological possibilities of Russian and Belarusian, and enhances student perception of the material when studying these disciplines. 

Work on the state-budget funded topic "Professionally Oriented Language Teaching Using Corpus Linguistics Technologies" (Scientific Supervisor – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor I.V. Budzko) is carried out within the second half of the working day of the teaching staff of the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages at BNTU.

Representatives from more than 10 countries took part in the IV student conference "Language - Society - Culture" at BNTU

On April 23, 2026, the IV International Student Scientific and Practical Conference “Language – Society – Culture” was held at the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages of the Faculty of International Cooperation at the Belarusian National Technical University. The conference brought together undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students of BNTU, as well as representatives of universities from both near and far abroad, including Russia, China, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Latvia, Turkey, Syria, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea, and other countries. III International Student Theoretical and Practical Conference «Language – Society – Culture»

On May 14, 2024, the III International Student Theoretical and Practical Conference “Language – Society – Culture” was held at the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages of the Faculty of International Cooperation. The reports were devoted to the following topics: the problem of translating medical discourse in fiction, cooperation between Belarus and China in the field of education, the history of Russian writing and phraseological units in the Belarusian language. The conference was attended by 110 students not only from Belarus and Russia but also from China, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Lebanon, Israel, the Republic of Congo and Nigeria. At the end of the conference the students were awarded with diplomas of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree.

International scientific conference "Technologies of modern education" 

On October 24-25, 2024, the international conference "Technologies of Modern Education" was held at our university. There were two sections within the conference, organized by the Department of "Belarusian and Russian Languages": "Semantics and Pragmatics of Text and Language Units in the New Linguistic Space" and "Modern Trends in the Theory and Practice of Teaching Languages".

The sections  featured reports on current theoretical issues of text stylistics and pragmatics (reports by I. V. Budko, I. V. Savitskaya, N. L. Makarenko, Yu. A. Smirnova), current issues of Belarusian studies (reports by E. E. Mantur, A. A. Miatselski, L. A. Girutskaya); the section on current issues of teaching languages, primarily Russian as a foreign language, was traditionally interesting and innovative. It’s worth noting the reports by S. V. Sabaida, N. M. Bolbas, V. V. Bely, T. A. Savina, D. A. Gorbachevsky, Zh. A. Pushkina, T. S. Makatrova. We were also pleased with an active participation of our young colleagues I. S. Balabanovich and E. I. Veremeychik in the conference.

This year, the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages ​​of BNTU is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The department staff stood at the origins of the organization of teaching Russian language to foreign students in our country. The department has a unique methodological and scientific potential in this area. We are pleased to share our achievements with colleagues and exchange experiences in order to develop and improve our work in the future.

III International Student Theoretical and Practical  Conference «Language – Society – Culture» 

The III International Student Theoretical and Practical conference «Language – Society – Culture», organized by the Department of the Faculty of International Cooperation «Belarusian and Russian languages» was held on May 16, 2024.  The conference was attended by more than 100 Belarusian and foreign students, students of the preparatory department of the Department of the Faculty of International Cooperation, undergraduate and postgraduate students from Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Congo and other countries. In two formats – full-time, as well as online, participants made presentations in Russian, Belarusian, English and Chinese languages.

The plenary session focused on the culture of Belarus and Uzbekistan, the origin of Russian business writing, translation problems, the peculiarities of cooperation between Belarus and China in the field of education. The conference worked in seven sections devoted to actual issues of linguistics, literature and cultural studies, as well as actual problems of the Belarusian language and culture, Chinese language and culture. At the end of the conference students were awarded with diplomas of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree. The best reports will be published in the electronic collection of conference materials.

On March 30, 2023, the department "Belarusian and Russian Languages" organized and held the III International Scientific and Practical Conference "Ethnocultural and sociolinguistic aspects in the theory and practice of teaching languages in non-humanitarian universities", the purpose of which is to exchange experience and summarize research work, expand and development of international relations and international cooperation.

The conference aroused great interest among scientists and teachers, as evidenced by the fact that it was attended by representatives of universities and organizations from all regions of the Republic of Belarus, as well as Russia, China, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan. The conference has become a meeting place and an active exchange of experience among philologists working in higher educational institutions, as well as researchers and methodologists.

During the conference, topical issues of teaching languages in higher educational institutions were discussed, taking into account the sociolinguistic and ethnocultural component of the educational process within the following problem areas:

1. Modern trends in the theory and practice of teaching languages.
2. Distance learning technologies in the practice of teaching languages.
3. The specifics of the language training of foreign students.
4. Ethnocultural and sociolinguistic approaches in teaching languages.
5. Peculiarities of language teaching as a specialty language.
6. Belarusian mova among modern linguadaktychnyh tendentians.
7. Uzbek-Slavic linguoculturological parallels.

More than 70 specialists from 5 countries took part in the discussion of topical problems of linguistics and linguodidactics. The number of foreign participants was 27 people.

The result of the conference was the establishment of international relations, the establishment of closer contacts with the Academy of Sciences of Belarus, as well as with the universities of the city and the country.

As a result of the conference, an electronic collection of scientific articles was published, which is placed in the public domain of the BNTU Electronic Library.

At the department, the VNK “Confessional Style” is carrying out research work “The Canfessional style of modern Belarusian language: the problem of identity, functionality, linguistic characterization” within the framework of the SPNI “Society and Humanitarian Security of the Belarusian State” for 2021-2025, the subprogram “Belarusian Language literature” (task 6.1.07).
