Since 2022, the department has become part of the newly established Faculty of International Cooperation. The department's leadership and staff were set new tasks: improving ideological and educational work with foreign students, establishing a mentoring system, facilitating the formation of national student associations, increasing the publication activity of the teaching staff, and stimulating student research activity. In 2024, the department celebrated its 60th anniversary.
Chinese-Belarusian Friendship Evening: Hotpot, Games, and Lively Communication
On June 24, 2026, lecturers of the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages, E. I. Veremeichyk and A. V. Sidarenko, organized a meeting for Chinese and Belarusian students of BNTU in the format of a conversation club. The event brought together students with the aim of developing cross-cultural communication skills and practicing languages outside the classroom.
During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with a traditional Chinese dish — hotpot, which not only enriched their gastronomic experience but also served as a reason to discuss the culinary traditions of both countries. The shared dinner helped create an informal atmosphere conducive to lively communication in Russian and Chinese. Students actively shared their impressions of the academic process, the specifics of living in Belarus and China, and also discussed cultural differences and common features.
After dinner, the participants spent time playing board games. The game format allowed students to continue their communication in a more relaxed setting, reinforce new language skills, and strengthen interpersonal connections.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere. The participants expressed interest in continuing such events.
In search of literary treasures: ICF students visited the National Library of Belarus
On May 23, ICF students, together with the teacher-intern Usanova V. V., visited the National Library of Belarus for the first time.
The main purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the literature in Turkmen presented in the main book depository of the Republic of Belarus. The students were able to learn what publications are available in the library's funds: scientific, artistic, journalistic literature, as well as other materials.
During their tour of the library, the participants discovered that Turkmen-language materials are most commonly found in multilingual music collections, cultural magazines, and periodicals. Additionally, the library offers a selection of Turkmen-language fiction and academic publications, which was a pleasant surprise for the students.
The visit to the library's exhibition section was equally captivating, as the students were introduced to contemporary graphic art. They also paid special attention to the shelves filled with language learning materials, which sparked great interest among the international students.
Visiting the National Library of Belarus allowed students to broaden their horizons, get acquainted with the cultural and literary resources of Belarus, and understand the importance of preserving national languages and cultures in the international educational space.
Golden Pen of White Rus
On May 22, 2026, a solemn awards ceremony for the laureates of the first stage of the republican essay competition «Golden Pen of White Rus' 2026» took place. This year, the creative project was dedicated to the Year of the Belarusian Woman and the theme «Woman of Belarus – the strength of roots and the wings of a dream». The works were evaluated in four categories: «Pupil», «Student», «Amateur», and «Professional».
The competent jury awarded the victory in the «Student» category (1st place) to Babanyaz Babanyazov, a student of the FMS from Turkmenistan.The chairman of the competition commission of the Sovetsky District noted the unusual composition and the touching story of Babanyaz about the fates of Turkmen and Belarusian women, as well as the author's own personal story.
The jury recommended the work for participation in the city stage of the competition, which will take place in September. We congratulate Babanyaz Babanyazov (supervisor: A.V. Yarashevich, lecturer at the Department of «Belarusian and Russian Languages») on his well-deserved 1st degree laureate diploma! We wish Babanyaz victory in the city and republican stages of the «Golden Pen of White Rus' 2026» competition!
The Commemoration Day of the creators of the Slavic alphabet – Saints Cyril and Methodius
From May 19 to May 22, 2026, students and teachers of the Department of "Belarusian and Russian Languages" of the ICF of BNTU took an active part in the Days of Slavic Writing and Culture at MPSU. The events were dedicated to the Commemoration Day of the creators of the Slavic alphabet – Saints Cyril and Methodius. Participation in the Week of Slavic Writing has already become traditional and is taking place for the fourth time.
On May 19, 2026, an international round table "Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Slavs: Educational Potential" was held at the Moscow House of Nationalities as part of the "Slavic Unity" project. At the expert meeting, the Head of the Department of "Belarusian and Russian Languages", Irina Vladimirovna Budko, presented a report on "The Development of the Cyrillo-Methodian Tradition in the Historical Belarusian Lands".
On May 20, 2026, Anna Viktarovna Yarashevich, a lecturer at the Department of "Belarusian and Russian Languages", took part in the thematic round table of the International Pedagogical Society under the Government of Moscow on the topic "Practices of Preserving Native Languages and Cultures from Childhood".
On May 22, 2026, BNTU students and students of the preparatory department of the FMS, together with lecturers N.L. Makarenko, T.A. Savina, I.S. Balabanovich, I.V. Savitskaya, A.V. Yarashevich, participated in an online educational meeting with students and teachers of Moscow Pedagogical State University. Master's students and students from both universities prepared interesting reports and presentations on the traditions of the Slavic peoples, and also took part in a music quiz.
The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, and at the end, all participants congratulated each other on the Day of Slavic Writing, a celebration of shared spiritual culture.
Creativity is a source of joy
On May 13, in the Reading Room No. 1 of the Scientific Library of BNTU, a solemn ceremony of awarding the winners and prize-winners of the traditional competition of student creative works in the Belarusian language, organized by the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, was held. The ceremony was attended by the winners of the competition and the students who took 1st place. The winners and prize-winners who attended the ceremony read their works, answered questions, and received prizes and certificates with joy.
This semester, four topics were proposed:
324 students participated in the competition. The jury reviewed 92 works selected by the teachers. 23 students were awarded.
The best work in the nomination "Letter to my Great-Grandfather" (as part of the Republican Victory Day campaign) was recognized by the jury as a poem by Alexandra Burblis (10806224), as if written for her by her grandfather. Egor Komissarchuk (11004223) and Olga Shavlovskaya, a 2nd-year master's student at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, used their essays to explore the value of life and the impossibility of forgetting the tragic events of the war.
"As long as a woman lives on earth, kindness and love will not disappear," says Valentina Parnok (10104223). This idea is figuratively supported by the works of Alexey Borshchev (10701223), Maxim Ukolov (11202125), Evgeny Nelipovich (10701223), and the author of the wonderful poem about Makarenko's mother's song, Ksenia (11504125).
Ivan Tankevich (11301124) provides very interesting reflections on the supposedly ideal future (set in the year 2170).
Unlike the first semester, when the topic "Without humanity, there will be no eternity" (Pimen Panchenko) did not particularly interest the students, we now have mature, non-standard works, the best of which are authored by Daria Shpanovskaya (11203123), Violetta Ech (10104223), Yana Dedul (10104223) and Ulyana Kulik (11303124).
Undoubtedly, the topic "And what. if..." attracted the largest number of students. As always, the students' imagination is surprising and delightful. Imagine an alternative reality in which the industrial revolution would have taken place not in London, but in the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Macievič Arcem, 11201225). Visit the village of Vashkevič Ivan's childhood (10604224). Don't hide your feelings and eyes (Šved Diana, 10903723)! Or maybe things have a memory? For example, a broken cup (Masterko Elizaveta, 10607123), cars and trains (Khatskevich Vladislav, 10114124), trees (Trofimov Mikhail, 11504125), and an abandoned house (Vorobyeva Maria, 11101422)? What if the language falls silent (Kovalchuk Anna, 10104223)? Vereshchagina Sofia (10803124) wrote a poignant, essentially anti-war poem. Baran Evgeniya (10104224) demonstrated her literary abilities, both in poetry and prose.

ICF Students Honored the Memory of the Heroes. As long as memory lives, the heroes live on
On 8 May 2026, students of the International Cooperation Faculty (ICF) and lecturers from the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages I.S. Balabanovich, T.A. Savina and A.V. Eroshevich took part in the traditional event «Flowers to the Hero’s Monument». Thanks to cooperation with the management of Post 1, located on Victory Square, ICF students have the opportunity to take part in the solemn laying of flowers together with cadets standing guard at the Eternal Flame.
The solemn laying of flowers arouses great interest among ICF students; there are always those willing to take part in such an event and in a short tour of Victory Square. On 8 May 2026, even the rainy weather did not prevent all participants in the event at Victory Square from paying tribute and showing respect to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
ICF students at the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War
On the eve of May 9, students of the Faculty of International Relations from Turkmenistan visited the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War. The event was organized to preserve historical memory and foster respect for the shared heroic past of the peoples of the USSR.
For the international students, the excursion was not just an introduction to the exhibition, but a deep emotional immersion into the tragic pages of history. The war of 1941–1945 is a great sorrow for all the peoples of the post-Soviet space. The Turkmen students showed sincere interest in every exhibit.
The young people carefully examined the dioramas recreating key battles: the defense of the Brest Fortress, partisan raids, and Operation «Bagration», during which Belarus was liberated. Particularly striking were the halls dedicated to the home front, which show the contribution of Central Asian peoples to supplying the front with food and equipment.
The students lingered for a long time at the displays bearing the names of Heroes of the Soviet Union. Understanding the historical truth about the war and respecting veterans are becoming an important part of their professional development.
The event concluded at the «Belarus Remembers» display, where the students took a group photo against the backdrop of symbols of military glory.
ICF Student Wins Grand Prix at International Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language
Gulnur Bazarova, a first-year student of the ICF at BNTU, became the winner of the 7th International Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language «Russia: Language and Traditions», receiving the Grand Prix diploma. The Olympiad was organized by Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University and was held online from April 13 to April 18, 2026.
The intellectual competition brought together international students, school pupils, and preparatory course participants from various countries around the world. The participants were required to demonstrate their proficiency in Russian (levels B1–B2), as well as their knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, regional studies, and creative skills.
Gulnur Bazarova’s preparation for the Olympiad was carried out with the support of her educator, D. D. Mityulya. As part of the creative stage, she presented a presentation titled «Pioneers of Space», dedicated to the outstanding achievements of humanity in space exploration.
The Olympiad consisted of two stages: a remote (online) testing round «I Know Russian!» and the creative stage «Flights into Space: From Dream to Reality», where participants presented video projects or presentations. The competition was dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight and combined themes of science, culture, and the future of humanity.
Based on the results of both stages, Gulnur Bazarova demonstrated a high level of proficiency in Russian and a creative approach to completing the tasks, which allowed her to take first place and receive the Grand Prix diploma. For the high-quality training of the participant, teacher D.D. Mityulya was awarded a letter of gratitude from the Olympiad organizers.
We are confident that this brilliant achievement will be an important milestone to new academic heights. We wish to maintain her enthusiasm, set ambitious goals, and achieve them with confidence!
Results of the Republican competition for foreign students
Students of the Preparatory Department and students of the ICF at Belarusian National University of Technology annually receive a unique opportunity not only to improve their language skills, but also to put them into practice by taking part in olympiads, competitions, and conferences.
From March 11 to April 17, 2026, the students participated in the 14th Republican Russian Language Competition for International students which took place at Belarusian State University.
The competition included two stages.
At the first stage, participants had to prepare video recordings exploring important topics such as "The Russian language - the key to a wonderful world," "Education in a Person’s Life," and "A Scientific Discovery That Changed the World."
In the second stage, the students were required to demonstrate skills in spontaneous speech– how quickly and confidently they can express their thoughts in response to a task.
Following the results of the competition, Gurbanova Abadan, a student of the preparatory department of the ICF of BNTU, received a third-degree diploma, and Jemal Rakhmanova, a 3rd-year student, was awarded a diploma for her original interpretation of the topic of spontaneous statements.
The results were a well-deserved confirmation that regular work on the language, preparation for performances and the courage to speak Russian produce noticeable results.
Only with You I Want to Be…
“Only with you I want to be…” – these heartfelt lines from a poem by the Belarusian poet Adam Rusak became the title and leitmotif of an event organized by the lecturers of the Belarusian language section at the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages (FIC) together with the Humanities and Educational Work Department of the BNTU Library. The event was timed to coincide with both the Year of the Belarusian Woman and International Poetry Day.
On March 27, Reading Room No. 1 of the Scientific Library was full to capacity: students from groups 10115125 (Senior Lecturer L.A. Hirutskaya), 11004125 (Associate Professor I.V. Savitskaya), 11202125 and 11303124 (Senior Lecturer A.A. Metelsky), 10803124 and 10806224 (Trainee-lecturer O.A. Azyava) gathered together. They came to read and listen to poems by Belarusian poets dedicated to Woman – the Beloved, the Mother, the Muse. Twenty-four students performed both well‑known classical verses by Maksim Bahdanovich (the poem “Zorka Venera” – “Venus Star”), Piatrus Broŭka (“Pakhne chabor” – “Wild Thyme Scent”), Uladzimir Karatkievich (“History with First Love”), as well as highly contemporary poems original in form and content by L. Dranko‑Maisiuk, E. Akulin, and other authors. The centrepiece of the literary programme – and a discovery for the students – was the famous “Wreath of Sonnets ‘Woman’” by Yanka Sipakow: an exceptionally rare poetic work consisting of fifteen sonnets, distinctive in that by repeating certain lines all fourteen sonnets are interconnected with each other and with the master sonnet – the fifteenth and final one, which itself is composed of the repeated opening lines of the previous sonnets.
Naturally, the student reciters were very nervous, but they were supported by the audience’s goodwill and a colourful presentation prepared by Ivanova I.P., bibliographer of the first category.
The lecturers were deeply impressed both by the expressive reading of the poems and by the attentive, hushed audience.

Republican dictation dedicated to Mother Tongue Day
The International Mother Tongue Day is celebrated on February 21, 2026. It was approved by UNESCO to emphasize the importance of preserving national languages and cultures around the world. The native language is the soul of the people, the tireless work of many generations, a mirror of the spiritual life and creativity of society. It is not just a means of communication, it is part of our identity, our great national treasure.
On February 20, the Belarusian National Technical University hosted an action dedicated to Mother Tongue Day – writing a Republican dictation. This event was held in many educational institutions of the country in order to increase students' interest in the cultural heritage of the Belarusian people, instill a sense of respect and pride for the Belarusian language and responsibility for its fate. It was attended by students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering (groups 11201325 and 11201525), the Faculty of Energy Construction (groups 11002225 and 11003123), as well as the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (group 10301124). The young people wrote the text "Native Word", which was read by senior lecturer of the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages Elena Petrovna Sakhonchik.
