The department provides training of mining engineers in the specialty "Development of mineral deposits (according to directions)". Directions of training: "Open pit mining", "Underground mining", "Mine surveying". The educational base of the department includes laboratories in geological disciplines, rock physics, mining processes, automation of production processes, a branch of the department in OAO Belgorkhimprom. Scientific directions of the department: modeling and optimization of the processes of development of mineral deposits; creation and improvement of safe and cost-effective technologies for the development of mineral deposits.

The BNTU team took part in a peat football tournament.

The 8th National Peat Football Tournament, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Belarusian energy system, was held on June 20, 2026, in the village of Pravdinsky, Pukhovichi District, at the Sergeevichskoye Peat Briquette Plant branch of the Mingaz State Unitary Enterprise. Twenty-seven teams participated, including some from Russia. A team of students and faculty from the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering and the Faculty of Power Engineering of the Belarusian National Technical University took to the peat fields. The peat football tournament is not only an exciting competition but also an opportunity to network with colleagues and meet like-minded individuals.
