Webometrics Universities World Rankings Updated Half Year Data. The top 5 Belarusian universities remained unchanged, but BNTU showed the highest quality growth - the university’s positions have strengthened by 179 positions, and now we are at 2536 places in the world.
The rating is compiled by an independent Spanish research group Cybermetrics Lab based on data from more than 28 thousand universities around the world. The main evaluation criteria are the citation of publications of scientists and the presence of universities on the Internet. Data is collected twice a year: in January and July.
Participation in international ratings is one of the directions of the strategic development of BNTU. This allows to include the university in the international educational environment, coordinate educational and research processes with international rules and standards in the field of education. 2536 place in the world is a worthy result for a technical university. Every year we rise in the ranking among universities. Therefore, we are moving in the right direction, - says BNTU rector, Sergey Kharitonchik, regarding the change in ratings.
The top five universities in the country are the following: the 1st place - BSU (763); 2nd place Belarusian National Technical University (2536), the 3rd – Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (3326); the 4th - BSUIR (3719); the 5th – Francisk Skorina Gomel State University (3758).
Six months ago the ranking was the following: the 1st place - BSU (703); 2nd place Belarusian National Technical University (2715), the 3rd – Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (3373); the 4th - BSUIR (3804); the 5th – Francisk Skorina Gomel State University (3848).
Rating is determined by four criteria. Now we are going to tell you about how they are formed and how BNTU indicators have changed for six months.
PRESENCE - is determined through the number of unique pages of the university’s website based on data from the Google system. It takes into account not only the main site of the university but also all sites located in its subdomains. July 2019 –1003 place, January 2020 - 812. We have climbed 191 positions.
VISIBILITY (or IMPACT) - the number of unique external links to pages on the site, that is, references to the university on other Internet resources. The criterion weight is 50%. July 2019 - 4896 place, January 2020 - 4322. We have climbed 574 positions.
TRANSPARENCY (or OPENNESS) - the number of citations from the 110 best authors of the university, minus the 10 most cited. The criterion weight is 10%. July 2019 - 1891 place, January 2020 - 1711. We have climbed 180 positions.
EXCELLENCE (or SCHOLAR) - 10% of the most cited scientific papers in the relevant fields of science for the five-year period 2013–2017 in the Scopus citation index. This criterion uses the SCImago database data. The criterion weight is 35%. July 2019 - 3180 place, January 2020 - 3164. We have climbed 16 positions.
