First-year studies in the "Customs" program at FMTH started with a full immersion into the future profession. While student chats are buzzing about the upcoming in-university Dota 2 tournament, on September 7th, a group of 40 freshmen went on their first big field trip.
The day's schedule was packed: firstly, the students visited State Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Personnel of Customs Bodies of the Republic of Belarus, and then they headed to the training ground.
The main part of the trip was getting to know the real work of customs officers. K9 specialists gave a presentation, showing the skills and abilities of service dogs in detecting prohibited substances.
At the same time, first-year students of BNTU didn’t just watch from the sidelines—they actually took part in the exercises themselves, helping the dog handlers simulate real work situations.
Also, at the training ground, the students were given a detailed explanation of the specifics of different types of customs control. The inspectors shared their real-life experiences, explained the nuances of cargo inspections, and quickly answered all the first-year students’ questions.
The trip ended with a return to the Institute, where, according to plan, there was a tour of the Customs Laboratory and a Round-Table Talk with the heads of the Institute’s departments.
In the open-dialog format, students had the chance to personally talk with customs officers and learn firsthand about career prospects and the specifics of their future service.
