Experience, innovation, and career prospects. BNTU was visited by a delegation of students from St. Petersburg

Опыт, инновации и карьерные перспективы. БНТУ посетила делегация студентов из Санкт-Петербурга

Today, on July 9, the Belarusian National Technical University received a delegation of first-year students from the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II. The students study in the field of "electric power engineering and electrical engineering" (profile "electric drive and automation"), where training is aimed at the creation, design and operation of automated electromechanical systems for mineral resources and fuel and energy complexes.

Andrey Kologrivko, Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering, delivered a welcoming speech and a detailed presentation on the training of engineering personnel for the mining industry of the Republic of Belarus. The meeting was also attended by Anastasia Arabey, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Sergey Skirkovsky, Dean of the Faculty of Automotive Engineering.

The meeting began with a conversation about the specifics of training modern engineering personnel. The level of education and the approach to teaching at the technical faculties of BNTU have a common fundamental basis, complemented by narrow-profile specifics. The guests were told in detail about the structure of the faculties, noting that in addition to the deep engineering component, considerable attention is paid to language training – by the fifth year, students master technical English at a high level. At the same time, the training is based on modern software products that are used by specialists all over the world.

Integration with the real sector of the economy remains the main foundation of engineer training. Dean Andrey Kologrivko spoke about the large-scale tasks that the university solves together with enterprises using specific examples.:

– We have a number of branches of departments in production and carry out serious scientific research for the flagships of the mineral resource sector.: JSC Belaruskali and RUPP Granit. Our developments fit into real design solutions. For example, for Belaruskali, we are solving the most important task of safely storing potash ore processing waste up to a height of 200 meters. Our research formed the basis for design decisions during the construction of deep mine shafts with a diameter of up to 12 meters and a depth of up to 850 meters. For enterprises engaged in open-pit mining, we justify the geoecological safety of drilling and blasting operations.

Such a deep connection between science and production is impossible without the active involvement of the students themselves. BNTU has created all the conditions for young researchers to realize their ideas while still sitting at a university desk. The logical result of such multi-vector training is one hundred percent employment. At the same time, according to Andrey Kologrivko, the starting financial conditions for engineering graduates are among the most attractive in the labor market.:

– The employer is interested in BNTU specialists. Salaries at specialized enterprises for a novice specialist now range from 1,500 to 2,500 rubles, and the maximum figures offered by our partners reached 5,900 rubles. This is a great career start for a young engineer.

At the end of the official part, practical excursions were organized for the children. In order to get acquainted with the university's activities, the students visited the advanced laboratories and research centers of FGDE, MSF and ATF.

We are confident that the acquaintance with the leading technical university of Belarus has left pleasant impressions for first-year students from Russia and will be an excellent incentive for further development in their chosen profession.
