Not long ago, the general meeting of the BNTU Student Council was held, during which a new leadership team was elected. This year, two representatives of the Instrumentation Faculty have taken key positions in student self-governance. Vladislav Fedorov, a student of group 11307124, was elected Chairman of the University's Council of Class Heads, while Elizaveta Khulup, a student of group 11307125, took over as head of the Editorial Board. We spoke with them about how they arrived at these positions, what they plan to change, and how they intend to balance serious public responsibilities with their studies at the faculty.
Vladislav Fedorov: "Being a class head is just the beginning"
— Vladislav, congratulations on your election! Was this a long-held aspiration or a spontaneous decision?
— The decision matured gradually. I have been the class head of my group since my first year. We have achieved a lot together: last year we won at Freshman Day, and this year we took first place in the "Best Academic Group of BNTU — 2026" competition. Along the way, I saw what issues students face and realized that I could help not only my own group but others as well. So I ran consciously, without any spontaneity.
— What, in your opinion, is the main challenge of the Chairman's role, and what motivates you to keep going?
— The challenge is that I have to simultaneously consider the interests of students and the requirements of the administration. But what motivates me is a tangible result: when a problem is solved — for instance, when a student starts attending classes and successfully passes their exams — that's the best incentive to keep going.
As Vladislav noted, the main areas of activity for the Council of Class Heads include: monitoring academic performance and attendance, promptly relaying information from the university and faculty leadership to every student, collecting necessary data upon the leadership's request, and facilitating improvements in the quality of the educational process as well as creating conditions for students' academic, research, and public activities.
— First and foremost, I want to hold introductory seminars for first-year class heads at the beginning of the academic year. This will help newcomers integrate faster into the work and into the large BNTU family: learn how to correctly fill out journals, monitor attendance, and convey up-to-date information. I also plan to increase coverage of the Council of Class Heads' activities on social media and come up with a dedicated event for class heads — so that the work is not only useful but also lively.
— What would you wish for your fellow students and all BNTU students?
— I want to say that the BNTU Council of Class Heads works for the students. I wish everyone successful exams and great holidays!
Elizaveta Khulup: "Student Media has become a brand, and we're not stopping"
— Elizaveta, congratulations! Tell us, how did you come to the decision to run?
— Honestly, it was a spontaneous but conscious decision. I spent a year working on the Editorial Board of BNTU Student Media: writing posts, coming up with features, shooting videos. It was our collective initiative that led to the creation of the TikTok account in the summer of 2025. I think it was the best decision. People watch us, like us, recognize us. Student Media has become a real brand.
Elizaveta shared that it was her determination and genuine desire to do something good for her university that helped her secure a leadership position.
— What does the Chair of the Editorial Board do on a daily basis?
— We have a large team: the core "Student Media" staff and editorial boards at each faculty. I review the channels and materials from the faculties, and oversee the work of the main student council channels. The work is quite demanding, but incredibly interesting. What I enjoy most is seeing the spark in the eyes of the guys who come with new ideas and support my mission to "do the best for BNTU."
— What is your work plan for the coming month?
— Right now, the main focus is on covering the admissions campaign — we need to tell applicants about enrollment. Also, our task is to show university life as much and as effectively as possible in an accessible format, and to help newcomers adapt to their new environment.
— How do you plan to motivate your large editorial team?
— I was recently in the shoes of copywriters, designers, and photographers myself, so I know for sure: the best motivation comes when your ideas are heard and accepted. I will continue to listen to and hear my team — that's our main principle.
— Studying at BNTU takes a lot of time. How do you balance your position with classes and exams?
— A leader must be talented in everything and set an example for others. So I will try even harder, both in my studies and in my activities. Studies come first — as an indicator, I successfully passed my second-year exams without any academic debts, which I'm very happy about. And if you're passionate about what you do, balancing everything comes easily.
The main advice Elizaveta gave to students was: "Do what you love, and love what you do!"
Two leaders from the same faculty is no coincidence. Instrumentation engineers have always been known for their cohesion and active life stance. Now they have the opportunity to influence the life of the entire university. Ahead lie the admissions campaign, first-year student adaptation, and new projects. Good luck to them and their teams!
