A new road methodological document has been developed at BNTU

In the interests of the road construction industry, the staff of the Center for Scientific Research and Testing of Road Construction and Waterproofing Materials at BNTU has developed, coordinated with the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus, approved, and published the road methodological document DMD 33200.044-2026 "Recommendations for Increasing the Service Life of Non-Rigid Road Pavements of Capital Type."

The purpose of creating the document is to improve the regulatory framework of road construction and increase the service life of non-rigid road pavements. During the work of the team of the Center for Research and Testing of Road Construction and Waterproofing Materials, the following tasks were solved:

  • a new criterion for assessing the quality of the coating layers was developed based on the determination of their structural heterogeneity;
  • an approach was proposed to ensure the optimality of the granulometric composition of the asphalt concrete mixture based on the criterion of maximum density;
  • a parameter was introduced to assess the nonlinearity of the deformation behavior of asphalt concrete;
  • a method of planar probing was developed for the laboratory determination of the stability of the properties of modified bitumen.

The consideration of these parameters, which were not previously regulated in technical documentation, allows for the modeling of asphalt concrete performance under real loading conditions and the achievement of maximum mineral aggregate density, which directly affects the durability of the structure.

 The developed DMU is intended for use by organizations in the road industry of the Republic of Belarus at the design and construction stages of non-rigid capital-type road pavements. The implementation of this document will reduce the occurrence of technological defects and minimize their impact on the reliability of pavements, as well as bring the actual level of inter-repair service life to the design values. The economic effect is achieved by reducing the costs of current repairs and maintenance of public roads.
