Yesterday, April 29, representatives of the faculties and PTU employees of the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) conducted a patriotic trip to the Myadel District, led by Irina Vakhtina, Chair of the PTU Employees' Trade Union. The trip was part of the "Memory of Generations" and "Two Wars - One Memory" campaigns commemorating the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The main goal of the visit was to beautify the memorial to fallen soldiers in the village of Buiki. Polytechnic University representatives carried out extensive work to restore order. Participants cleaned the surrounding area, repainted the memorial, and planted ten thuja trees, each symbolizing ten years of peace.
The trip also included visits to significant historical sites. The BNTU delegation paid tribute at the monument to the heroes of World War I, located near the agro-town of Zanaroch. Furthermore, as a sign of deep respect for the heroes' heroism, a ceremonial flower-laying ceremony was held at the mass grave. Another stop on the trip was a visit to the Myadel District Military Commissioner's Office, where the participants viewed the cultural and historical exhibition "Myadel Region in Flames..." The university representatives were able to see unique artifacts from the First World War and the Great Patriotic War, as well as examine historical documents and photographs.
Lyudmila Kremis, a leading specialist at the Myadel District Military Commissioner's Office, spoke about the significance of the work being carried out:
– Today, you worked on the improvement of the monument to fellow countrymen who died in the Great Patriotic War. Their grandfathers and great-grandfathers fought in the First World War. And today we are talking about the continuity of generations, about two wars, but one memory. All of this is closely interconnected, and the fact that the monuments will be improved and preserved in good condition is very important for young people, first and foremost. The younger generation is raised on the heroic deeds of their ancestors. BNTU has been visiting us for several years. It has already become a good tradition. The participation of faculty and students in such events is very important. Every military grave is a page in our history—the history of not only our region, but also our country. It is important not only to find but also to perpetuate the deeds of our heroic ancestors." Today, April 29, BNTU students and faculty worked in the village of Syrmezh, improving the monument to our fallen compatriots. They cleared the area of moss, painted the posts and chains, and planted greenery. And, of course, the monument has been transformed. It has acquired a more majestic appearance. Cleanliness and order are very important. This is especially symbolic today, on the eve of May 9, when we remember all our fallen compatriots who fought on various fronts during the Great Patriotic War. Therefore, we extend a deep bow and a huge thank you to the students and faculty of BNTU.
Preserving historical heritage is an important and enduring tradition for the university staff. Last year, in anticipation of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the BNTU trade union organized work at the monument to compatriots in the agro-town of Starlygi in the Myadel District. Activists painted the inscriptions on the granite slabs and planted eight arborvitaes. Students from the local Ivan Anis'ko Secondary School provided significant assistance in this campaign. Elena Grinevich, Deputy Dean of the Automobile and Tractor Faculty, and Dmitry Skorkin, Chairman of the Faculty Trade Union, regularly provide tremendous support in organizing such important trips, for which the staff of the primary trade union expresses their sincere gratitude.
At the end of the trip, the participants, along with Elena Grinevich, visited the Ivan Anis'ko Secondary School in Starlygi. As part of the generous republican initiative "Trade Unions for Children," representatives of the BNTU employees' primary trade union visited students and presented them with useful gifts.
Creative initiatives like these once again prove that the memory of the great deeds of our ancestors lives in the hearts of Polytechnic students and is carefully passed on to new generations.
