Today, on April 24, an instructional and methodological seminar for curators of study groups "Organization of educational and preventive work with student youth" was held at BNTU. The event was aimed at improving the curators' competencies in the areas of prevention and ensuring the safety of students, as well as timely response to crisis situations.
The event was addressed by Elena Bulko, a specialist of the Juvenile Affairs Inspectorate of the Soviet District Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk, and Olga Rimik, a teacher-psychologist of the Social and Pedagogical and Psychological Service of the Department of Ideological and Educational Work of the Center for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of BNTU.
In her speech, Elena Bulko focused on the prevention and counteraction of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The specialist explained in detail how to recognize the early signs of a student's involvement in illegal activities, what aspects of behavior and appearance should be of concern to curators, and what steps should be taken when suspicious behavior is detected.
The speaker also addressed the equally important topic of preventing extremism among young people. Elena Nikolaevna explained the various forms that extremist activities can take, how malicious individuals use the internet and social media to influence young people, and the methods that curators should use to educate students and protect them from destructive ideologies. Specific examples from practice were also provided.
The third most important issue raised by the representative of the district police department was the problem of sexual abuse of minors through the use of the global computer network Internet. Elena Nikolaevna drew the attention of the curators to the fact that cybercriminals are increasingly using instant messengers and social networks to involve young people in dangerous contacts. The specialist gave practical recommendations for conducting conversations with students about digital hygiene, how not to become a victim of manipulation, and where to go in case of suspicious communication on the network.
In turn, Olga Vladimirovna devoted her report to the prevention of crisis situations and suicidal behavior among students. The psychologist focused on the "markers of distress," which are changes in a student's behavior, emotional state, and social connections that may indicate a deeper internal crisis. The curators were educated about the risk factors, how to approach the conversation if there are suspicions, and where to seek professional help immediately. Olga Vladimirovna emphasized that the attention, sensitivity, and concern of a curator can sometimes save a young life, and she urged her colleagues not to ignore any warning signs.
