On Tuesday, on March 31, the Belarusian National Technical University was visited by a delegation from Harbin Engineering University (People's Republic of China). The visit, organized to discuss the prospects for cooperation in the field of education and science, was an important step in strengthening international ties between two leading technical universities.

The delegation included Vice-Rector Zhang Shimei, Deputy Head of the Information Department Wu Dandan, Deputy Dean of the Institute of Marxism Yang Zhen, Deputy Head of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges Ding Xin, and Professor of the Institute of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering Li Shuai.

On behalf of the Belarusian University, the guests were welcomed by Ksenia Yakushenko, Vice-Rector for Research, Dmitry Livansky, Dean of the Faculty of Energy Engineering, Igor Kachanov, Head of the Department of Hydraulic and Energy Engineering, Water Transport, and Hydraulics, Yulia Medvedeva, Associate Professor of the Department of Hydraulic and Energy Engineering, Water Transport, and Hydraulics, and Nikolai Vishnyakov, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Cooperation.

Opening the meeting, Ksenia Yakushenko greeted the Chinese colleagues and wished them a fruitful discussion. The Chinese side, in turn, praised the organization of the reception and expressed its readiness to deepen cooperation.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues, from international cooperation and patriotic education of students to innovative methods of personnel training. However, the key topic of the meeting was the possibility of holding large-scale joint student competitions.

The head of the delegation, Zhang Shimei, emphasized the importance of developing the existing base of cooperation between universities and suggested taking it to a new level:
— In China's technological fields, we would like to collaborate with you in various areas, including personnel training, scientific research, information events for students, and fostering patriotism. Since we already have a basic foundation for communication between our universities, we sincerely wish to organize an international student competition together.

As a result of the meeting, we agreed to further expand academic exchanges in detail.


The visit of the delegation from Harbin Engineering University was not just another point in the plan for international cooperation, but a real breakthrough in the development of partnership relations. This event set a high tone for future joint projects and confirmed that the joint work of Belarusian and Chinese scientists can bring technical education to a fundamentally new, innovative level.
