The staff of the Branch Scientific Research Laboratory (ONIL) of innovative energy of the Belarusian National Technical University is currently performing an important amount of work for the domestic energy sector. As part of the business agreement with the State Enterprise Belenergo, university scientists are developing a package of four state standards of the Republic of Belarus on electric energy storage systems.
The standards being developed cover key aspects of the functioning of electric energy storage systems, forming an integrated regulatory framework for this promising industry.
The first standard is "Electric energy storage systems. Terms and Definitions" is dedicated to the field of application, regulatory references, and terms and definitions, which lays the foundation for a uniform understanding of the subject by all market participants.
The standard "Electric energy storage systems. Installation parameters and test methods. The General Description" examines the scope of application, regulatory references, terms, definitions, abbreviations and designations, classification and parameters of the SNEE, as well as types and methods of testing.
The third standard is "Electric energy storage systems. Design and evaluation of operating parameters. General requirements" concerns issues of design and evaluation of operating parameters, defining general requirements for the structure of systems and approaches to their creation. Within the framework of this, the following issues are considered: scope, regulatory references, terms, definitions and designations, the structure of the SNEE, the design and evaluation of the SNEE operating parameters.
Finally, the fourth standard is "Electric energy storage systems. Security of systems operating within the network. General requirements" regulates the safety requirements for the operation of such systems as part of a common power grid. This document includes not only the identification of possible hazards and risk assessment, but also specific requirements for their mitigation, as well as a safety test methodology and related guidelines.
Completion of these works is scheduled for December 31, 2026, and to date, drafts of all four documents in the first edition have already been prepared, which are sent to collect feedback from interested organizations.
The importance of the work being carried out cannot be overestimated: the creation of its own regulatory framework is a prerequisite for the safe integration of modern energy storage devices into the country's energy system, the unification of equipment requirements and ensuring its reliable and efficient operation. The successful completion of this project will allow Belarus to reach a new level of development of the electric power industry, in line with current global trends.
