The Republic of Belarus is one of the youngest presidential republics. Exactly 30 years ago, on July 10, 1994, the second round of the presidential elections of Belarus took place. There were six candidates then. On that day, 80% of Belarusians supported Alexander Lukashenko, giving him the right to become the first President of independent Belarus.
The constitutional and legal status of the President changed significantly in 1996 after the adoption of a new version of the Constitution at a Republican referendum. Further development and specification of the legal status of the President and his powers are reflected in the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On the President of the Republic of Belarus".
For 30 years, the republic has gone through many trials and achievements. In 1996, Belarus stopped the economic downturn. In 2000, it was the first of the former Soviet republics to exceed the figures of 1990. From 1998 to 2005, GDP increased from $15 billion to $30 billion, and over the next three years it doubled again. Belarus has actually entered the top 10 countries in terms of economic growth.
Today, Belarus is one of the five world exporters of dairy products. Quarry dump trucks are supplied to 80 countries. Every tenth tractor on the planet is assembled in Minsk. The President's policy of integration with the Russian Federation and the formation of a Union State also found wide support among the people.
– The thirtieth anniversary of the Institute of the presidency is a significant date, which, as the focus of time, reflects a lot, and most importantly – the choice of the people and the mandate of trust in Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko, who determines the fate of the development of the Republic of Belarus. The institution of the presidency has become a lifesaver for Belarus. It was born and developed together with our statehood. In many ways, it has become synonymous with genuine independence and sovereignty, national unity and the cultural code of our country, – said First Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Bakhanovich.
Today, the country is holding a set of events dedicated to the celebration of the Institute of the Presidency in the Republic of Belarus. Thus, the information and educational forum "Minsk - yesterday, today, tomorrow" has started in Minsk. The forum is attended by representatives of the Belarusian National Technical University: Rector Sergei Kharitonchik and Vice-rector for Educational Work Timur Matyushinets.
The forum is organized in three thematic information blocks: the development of urban space and the economic potential of the city, the development of the social sphere (education, health, social protection of the population), the preservation of historical memory, cultural and sports activities in Minsk.
In addition, by the significant date of the Institute of the presidency, ONT will broadcast a documentary film "One for All" about the path the country and the government have taken in 30 years.
