BNTU – choosing the best: the eleventh story

БНТУ – выбор лучших: история одиннадцатая

The holidays have come to the end  and the students have already returned to study, which means that we continue the heading "BNTU – choosing the best", in which we get acquainted with the outstanding first-year students of the university. The character of this text is Ksenia Loman, a first–year student of the Faculty of Management Technologies and Humanitarization, studying in the specialty "Economics and Management".

The girl began to think about her future career in the 9th grade, when some of her classmates were going to go to college. However, there are so many different jobs in this world, and among the great variety it is important to choose what is right for you. How did Ksenia solve this dilemma?

– Then I started to think about what suits me best, where I can prove myself. In this state of mind, career tests helped undoubtedly (applicants, take note! – author's note). After answering all the questions, I got a result that described my qualities and suggested several professions, among which was the profession of "economist". Of course, even before passing the test, I thought about this profession, but the test seemed to give the green light.

– What does it mean for you to be an economist?

– An economist is obliged to think critically, since his tasks include analyzing the market, forecasting its development, optimizing profits and offering ideas to increase it. Of course, the profession is not for everyone, some people consider it boring, tedious and unnecessary, but this is not the case at all.

Before finally choosing a specialty and university, Ksenia decided to study the issue thoroughly and get to know the Belarusian National Technical University.

When it became a question of choosing a university, I started looking at various options on the Internet. It was at that moment that my choice fell on the BNTU. However, it was important for me to study the issue thoroughly, so I decided to see what it looks like from the inside, and went to the open house. The beautiful view, the cheerful atmosphere and a lot of interesting students showed that my choice to go to BNTU was the right one.

– Every applicant imagines student life even before admission. Did your expectations and reality match up?

– Yes and no. Undoubtedly, first of all I went to BNTU for knowledge, which is why I imagined that most of my free time from couples would also go to study. However, I did not expect that student life would be so intense. In addition to studying, BNTU holds a lot of events: starting with volunteer actions and ending with various excursions. The most memorable for me was "FTUG Day of first-year students" – a bright show filled with unforgettable emotions, the participants of which were first-year students.

The Belarusian National Technical University is a place of opportunity. In addition to an active social life, you can start learning a new language. For example, I am studying Chinese. Do you like sports? BNTU has many sections to visit. Comparing my expectations and reality, I can say that I didn't imagine such a side of student life.

Indeed every student can not only receive a high-quality education at BNTU, but also realize himself  in any sphere of life. Ksenia has chosen her own path – science.

– Scientific activity is a chance to expand existing knowledge and acquire new ones. By doing science, the student develops critical thinking, learns the methodology of the scientific process and prepares to apply the knowledge gained in practice. And if BNTU provides an opportunity to develop such skills, so why not take everything from studying? Of course, starting something new is not easy, but learning to walk, read, and write was also difficult for us. As for me, scientific activity is a source of knowledge that I will need in my professional activities in the future.

– What achievements are you especially proud of? Have you had plans for the future?

– Already now, delving into some issues, I have participated in three conferences, in two of which I made a presentation in person. It was an unforgettable emotion. Doctors and candidates of sciences, people who are directly related to economics, spoke at the conference held within the framework of BNTU. Listening to their performances, I think everyone was impressed by the quantity and quality of their knowledge and experience. Probably, every student who took part in this conference understood what to strive for.

It is still difficult for me to talk about the future. It is only clear that I intend to continue my scientific activities, participate in various conferences and of course, graduate from the university with a Diploma with Honors.

Each faculty of BNTU is good in its own way, and at each one you can get unique knowledge in your chosen specialty. For applicants who are considering the Faculty of Management Technologies and Humanitarization, Ksenia speaks from her own experience.

– At our faculty, the applicant will receive knowledge that will definitely be needed in future professional activities, our faculty in particular the Department of “Economics and Law” is distinguished by its teachers.  Many of them have achieved great results in the real sector of the economy, they are candidates and even doctors of sciences. Thus, the student not only gets theoretical knowledge, but also knows how to apply it in practice.

We thank Ksenia for the interview and wish her success in achieving her goals.
