The BNTU Scientific Library is the largest university library of the Republic of Belarus with a technical profile with a universal fund on technology, architecture, art, natural sciences, etc.
For 100 years of its existence, the library provides educational and research processes of the country's oldest technical university.
The service system of the BNTU Scientific Library includes 5 subscriptions (65, Independence Ave.), 10 reading rooms, KB-16 Coworking (16, Ya. Kolas St.), interlibrary loan, 18 cathedral libraries. There is an electronic document delivery service (EDD). For the convenience of students, reading rooms are open in hostels and remote buildings.
Workplaces and library premises have access to Wi-Fi and all information resources. In all halls there is an opportunity to hold events and book rooms (tel. +375 17 251 46 50, obmpd@bntu.by ).
The Universal Fund (over 2 million copies) is presented in the Electronic Catalog - these are scientific, educational, periodicals, technical regulatory legal acts (TNLA), fiction. Particular attention is paid to the formation of electronic resources of its own generation.
The BNTU repository - an information resource contains more than 105,000 documents, including: full texts of journals, guidelines and manuals, monographs, textbooks and manuals, articles, abstracts of dissertations, conference materials, curricula created at BNTU. Free access from anywhere in the world to full texts of documents, except for dissertations and R&D reports.
In 2021, the BNTU Local Electronic Library was launched for the first time . The resource is unique, first of all, in that the main body of books and articles is selected according to the principle of supporting educational programs in English. The collection also includes Russian-language sources - these are the most popular books according to teachers and students.
Portal of scientific journals BNTUThese are open access journals. Scientific journal BNTU “Energy. News of higher educational institutions and energy associations of the CIS” continued to be indexed in the Scopus scientific citation database. BNTU scientific journals "Science and Technology" and "Instruments and Methods of Measurement" are indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index database on the Web of Science platform. The listed journals, as well as "System Analysis and Applied Informatics" and "Casting and Metallurgy" have their own websites created in accordance with the requirements of international content standards based on Open Journal Systems. All five scientific journals of BNTU are connected to the Crossref international system of bibliographic references for digital object identification (Digital Object Identifier - DOI). All journals and their metadata are submitted to global catalogs and aggregators.
The base of the BNTU in the Media is an image product that allows you to track any mention of BNTU - news, successes and achievements of the university, staff and students. Sources of replenishment of the database are varied - these are Internet resources, printed sources and video content.
The collection of electronic resources of the BNTU is complemented by acquired databases of world importance.
The library staff develops its professional level and forms the information culture of users. Great importance is placed on scientific communication and the promotion of researchers' publication in high-quality, world-class, peer-reviewed scientific journals. Based on the principles of Open Science, the Scientific Library promotes the popularization of the publications of the BNTU authors and the results of their scientific activities. Thus, the library contributes to the promotion of BNTU in the rankings of the best universities in the world. Awakening students' interest in scientific work is one of the tasks of the staff; it is the library that helps to open the door to science.
In 2020, it confirmed the status of a coordinating and methodological center for libraries of higher education institutions in the Minsk region and the city of Minsk.
To popularize reading among young people, the BNTU Scientific Library became a member of the worldwide BOOKCROSSING movement. This is an international book club that blurs the boundaries of space and time.
The Tactile Books project to create modern children's books for visually impaired children, among 36 other projects from 14 countries, was included in the American Library Association ALA IRRTICC 2020 Photo Gallery Best Practices in Libraries. The photo gallery showcases library projects and programs that best showcase the theme of the 2020 ALA: The Value of Libraries in Promoting Social Justice and Inclusion.
