Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

С Новым годом и Рождеством!

Dear colleagues, friends, students, and graduates of the Belarusian National Technical University!

I sincerely wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

New Year's holidays are always full of warmth, happiness, and bright expectations. It is the most time to summarize the outgoing year, build future plans and fulfill most cherished desires!

The outgoing 2019 was marked for the Belarusian National Technical University with a number of outstanding events. We continued on an ongoing basis to develop and improve the curriculum, to open new specialties and specializations. A number of specialties began training in English. Our work has led to an increase in the prestige of engineering education and BNTU image in the student's community. The result is a significant increase in young people's motivation from Belarus and foreign countries to enter our university. So compared with last year, the number of applications submitted to our university has increased by more than 50%.

Positions in international rankings speak of well-functioning work at our university. In the popular ranking of Webometrics universities, our university occupies the 2715th position among 12000 universities in the world. This is a great result for the technical university! According to the QS rating, one of the most authoritative ratings, we are the 103rd university in the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. We are also ranked in the 801 - 1000 category for the best universities in the world.

The scientific and innovative university activity was extremely effective. We continue to conduct unique scientific research, create new laboratories and innovative enterprises in various fields. In 2019, a branch research laboratory of innovative devices of MEMS technologies was added to a number of successfully functioning industry research laboratories in the field of innovative energy and plasma and laser technologies. It is pleasant to note that the achievements of our scientists are highly appreciated and recognized in the international arena. So, the Eurasian Prize in the field of inventions in the nomination "For an invention in the field of protecting human life and health" was awarded to the team of BNTU authors together with medical scientists for the development of a "Device for eliminating obstruction of blood vessels."

The material and technical base of our university is constantly developing and we are working on improving the living conditions of students' dorms. This year, BNTU 18 dorm, built with the technical assistance of our Chinese friends, began its operation.

The university held a number of international events at a high level. This year, BNTU was the organizer of the 16th European Automotive Congress. For students, this was a unique opportunity to learn first-hand about innovative developments in the field of automobile transport from representatives of leading universities and companies such as Volkswagen, Geely, MSC from more than 30 countries in Europe, Asia, America, Africa, and others.

Traditionally, at a high level, was held the VIII Forum of the Union State of Universities of Engineering and Technology profile, the main theme of which was “Digital University”.

The creation of the Belarusian-Uzbek interdisciplinary institute of applied technical qualifications in Tashkent together with Uzbek colleagues deserves special attention. This event will mark the beginning of a new round in the history of the development of cooperation not only of the Belarusian National Technical University and the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov but will also strengthen the already friendly relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan.

In December 2020, our university will turn 100 years old. This means that the university faces new challenges. And only well-coordinated work, determination, focus on results, high-level teaching, and our scientific achievements will allow us to maintain and increase the high level that we have already achieved.

I want to express my gratitude to everyone for taking part in the life of our university. Thank you for your trust and for supporting the university. I sincerely wish you health, personal well-being, warmth and new professional victories in the New Year!

Sincerely yours,
Rector of the BNTU S. Kharitonchik
