On October 29, the grand opening of the largest event in the field of engineering education, science and innovation took place - the VIII Forum of Universities of Engineering and Technology Profile of the Union State.
The main building of the Belarusian National Technical University has opened its doors to scientists and students from Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Serbia and the Czech Republic who are ready to share their knowledge and experience in the field of digitalization of education, to discuss the best teaching practices using information and communication technologies, to raise important questions and look for answers to them.
Rector of the Belarusian National Technical University Sergey Kharitonchik made a welcoming speech. Expressing gratitude to the forum participants, the rector noted:
“Every year the forum is becoming increasingly large-scale, popular and productive. The forum received an international vocation and turned into the largest accessible venue where representatives of university scientists and students get a unique opportunity to demonstrate their innovative ideas in various fields of science and technology. At the final stage is the question of transferring the forum from a pilot project to the status of an annual event of the Union State. The digital revolution, which has changed our lives beyond recognition in recent years, has begun to rebuild the system of higher education. That is why the theme of the VIII Forum of Universities of Engineering and Technology was chosen as the topic "Digital University". The requirements for the development of it-education will be discussed. I wish the forum participants fruitful work and constructive dialogue! ”
The forum will be organized into four sections, 112 speakers will present their reports and projects. The economic and environmental problems of mining, construction, and energy will be considered separately. And in the section "Youth startups for a digital university" young scientists will present their digital projects, which can subsequently be implemented in universities of the Union State.
The Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Shumilin Alexander Gennadyevich also spoke at the opening ceremony.
“The Belarusian school of engineering education has always been one of the best. It was noted more than once that the training of our specialists is in line with world practice. However, time does not standstill. You can not teach a person something once and for a lifetime. Today, the digitalization of education is seen as an experimental approach to the organization of educational and scientific activities. And this approach, of course, entails changes in professional competence. That is why we have high hopes for energetic and creative young people, ”the Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology noted in his speech.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University R.E. Alekseeva Evgeny Gennadievich Ivashkin emphasized that it is impossible to change and train specialists with digital competencies without changing our consciousness and the university itself. In the direction of the next forum, the vice-rector proposed to identify the Arctic subjects. “This is a huge work, a promising topic. The only thing that needs to be remembered: our forum is for youth and the topic should, first of all, be interesting to young people, ”commented on the proposed idea, BNTU Rector Sergei Vasilievich Kharitonchik.
