Prevention with BNTU: Safety Rules in the Dormitory

Профилактика с БНТУ: правила безопасности в общежитии

A dormitory is a shared home for hundreds of students, and the safety of everyone depends on the responsibility of all residents. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus reminds you of the basic rules that will help you avoid emergencies.

A dormitory is a special attention area, because it is a place of mass habitation, where the behavior and lifestyle of its residents affect not only themselves, but also those who live in the neighborhood. Short circuits, unattended electrical appliances, careless and illegal handling of fire when smoking - this is not the full list of causes of fire incidents that occur in dormitories.

 What is prohibited in dormitories:

leave unattended electrical appliances connected to the power grid;

use faulty electrical appliances and sockets;

overload the power grid by plugging several powerful electrical devices into the same outlet at the same time;

use open flame sources (candles, matches, torches, etc.) indoors;

store cylinders with combustible gases, containers with flammable and combustible liquids indoors;

obstruct escape routes, such as staircases, corridors, and exits.

to arrange storerooms (closets) in stairwells and on-floor corridors, to store things, furniture and combustible materials under staircases and on staircases.

 While living in a hostel, you should:

turn off electrical appliances from the socket when you leave the room or go to bed last;

use only serviceable factory electrical appliances and chargers - damaged wires and cheap imitations often cause short circuits;

know where the emergency exits are in your hostel and keep them free;

know where the fire extinguisher is located and how to use it — the skills of using primary fire extinguishing equipment can come in handy in a critical situation;

 familiarize yourself with the evacuation plan of the building;

 if the fire alarm goes off, immediately leave the building through the nearest exit, without using the elevator;

 in case of fire, call 101 or 112.

 The most important thing is your responsibility. We would like to remind you that a dormitory is a place where your carelessness can harm not only you, but also dozens of your neighbors. Every student should know how to act in the event of a fire in the dormitory or academic building. It is necessary to familiarize yourself with the evacuation plan and the locations of fire extinguishers in advance. Follow safety rules and be attentive to yourself and others.
