Prevention with BNTU: Rules of Safe Behavior on Water

Профилактика с БНТУ: правила безопасного поведения на воде

During the spring and summer, residents and guests of our country often go to water bodies in their free time to relax and recuperate in nature. However, while relaxing, citizens sometimes forget about safety measures on water, which leads to tragic consequences.

In order to ensure public order, personal and property security of citizens in places of mass recreation, and to prevent deaths on water and fires, police patrols are deployed by the district departments of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee. Police officers, in cooperation with employees of the Special Operations Department, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and other services, carry out a set of measures aimed at ensuring security and preventing illegal actions. However, the safety of people and their property during recreation primarily depends on them.

 Water does not forgive carelessness. To avoid accidents, it is necessary to strictly follow the following rules:

swim only in specially equipped places – on beaches, in swimming pools, bathhouses. It is strictly forbidden to swim in prohibited and unestablished places;

never enter the water in a state of alcoholic intoxication. Alcohol blocks the normal activity of the brain and slows down reflexes, which makes a person a threat not only to himself, but also to others;

do not swim on an empty stomach or immediately after eating. It is recommended to wait 1.5-2 hours after eating;

stay in the water for no more than 10-15 minutes. If you become hypothermic, you may experience cramps. If you experience cramps, you should change your swimming style to reduce the strain on your muscles, or use a sharp object to prick yourself.

 Do not swim beyond the buoys, fences, or warning signs. Assess your strength and do not swim too far from the shore.

 Do not swim too close to passing vessels (boats, speedboats, and jet skis). There is a current nearby that can suck you under the propeller;

It is strictly forbidden to jump or dive into the water from dams, marinas, boats, and in places with unknown depth and bottom relief. This can lead to severe injuries;

Do not allow rough water games involving diving, grabbing the limbs of swimmers and "drowning". Do not give false signals for help;

Be extremely careful with inflatable mattresses, cameras and toys. They can be carried far from the shore by the wind or current, or they can be swept away by a wave;

Never leave small children unattended near bodies of water. They can stumble, fall, and drown;

Do not use rowing and motorized watercraft, water bikes, or motorcycles in beach areas, public swimming areas, or within the boundaries of these areas if there are no buoys marking the beach area;

Do not swim in areas where boats and jet skis are moving. You risk being harmed by the actions of an undisciplined or inattentive owner of a high-speed motorboat.

 Take care of yourself and your loved ones! Remember: your safety is in your hands.
