Do the right thing: Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology

We continue to introduce applicants to the faculties and specialties of the Belarusian National Technical University in anticipation of the start of the admission campaign. Today, we are talking about the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology (FMEE), a training ground for one of the key sectors of the Belarusian economy.

What is the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology like?

The Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology trains specialists who work at the intersection of modern geotechnologies and sustainable natural resource management. They specialize in the extraction and processing of minerals, the design of mining equipment, and environmental safety and industrial management. The demand for such graduates is consistently high.

For reference: every year, 100% of graduates are assigned to such leading enterprises and organizations as OAO Belaruskali, RUE Shakhtostroy, RUE Granit, OAO Dolomit, OAO Krasnoselskstroymaterialy, PA Belorusneft, UE Minskmetrostroy, enterprises subordinate to UE MINGAZ and GPO Beltopgaz.", SE "Scientific and Production Center for Geology", PUP "Kaliyproekt", CJSC "Soligorsk Institute of Resource Conservation Problems with Pilot Production", the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Ministry of Architecture and Construction, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection and a number of higher educational institutions.

The faculty was founded in 2002 and today offers both bachelor's and specialist programs, as well as master's and postgraduate programs. The faculty collaborates with real enterprises, and students are immersed in industry-specific knowledge from the very first courses. This was explained by the dean of the faculty, Andrey Kologrivko.

– The combination of traditions and innovations in the training of engineering personnel, who have a wide range of knowledge in engineering, integration into the international scientific and educational space allows for the systematic development of educational and research potential at the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology, thereby dynamically strengthening the mineral resource sector of the economy. A special place in the training of engineering personnel is occupied by the direction of ensuring the quality of the environment. Training of specialists is carried out in close cooperation with enterprises and organizations where the departments' branches operate, which allows for the inclusion of all innovative approaches and technologies in the educational process and the timely introduction of relevant adjustments to the curricula. The faculty has strong academic ties with partner universities abroad, which allows students to acquire additional professional competencies through their studies at these universities during their time at the faculty.

Student life at the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology

 Students participate and demonstrate themselves in a wide range of events, such as the "Freshman Day." Students can also boast of excellent athletic skills in the university's "Universiade" and "Six Cup" competitions. The students often showcase their creative talents in competitions such as "Mr. (and Miss) BNTU," "Spring BNTU," and "VideoRadius BNTU," where they consistently win one of the three prizes.

The students are also actively involved in scientific research. They actively present their research at international symposiums, conferences, and forums, and participate in the "100 Ideas for Belarus" national youth project. They consistently win prizes due to their skills and the guidance of their professors. The scientific and creative student bureau "Gornyak" is functioning. As a result of the bureau's work, more than 120 scientific papers have been published, and 23 patents of the Republic of Belarus have been obtained. 100 awards from the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the social support of gifted students and undergraduates have been presented to participants, including 32 awards of the "Laureate" badge.

A large number of production tours at the enterprises that hire personnel helps students to better understand their future profession.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering explained what applicants should pay attention to first:

– Firstly, choose and enroll in a specialty that can bring you moral satisfaction and genuine interest in the process of mastering your profession. Secondly, it is important to focus on long-term prospects, such as obtaining a fascinating job at an enterprise that guarantees a decent salary, – said Andrey Andreevich.
