Do the right thing: Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

We continue to talk about the faculties of the Belarusian National Technical University under the heading "Do the right thing." This time we will analyze the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (MSF). 

What is it, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering? 

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering trains specialists in the field of technology and equipment, automation of production processes and intelligent machines. Graduates of the faculty are able to work on modern equipment, manage production processes and implement digital solutions in enterprises.

For reference: the main customers of personnel are leading machine—building enterprises, such as JSC Minsk Tractor Plant, JSC Minsk Automobile Plant, the management company of BELAVTOMAZ Holding, JSC BELAZ, the management company of BELAZ—HOLDING, JSC Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, JSC Minsk Plant gear" and a number of other enterprises.

Anastasia Arabey, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, noted that today the faculty is an integration of age—old traditions and modern digital technologies. She stressed that an engineer should now not only have practical skills in working with equipment, but also be able to program, design in 3D, and understand the economics of production processes.

— The BNTU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has been training highly qualified engineers and scientific and pedagogical personnel in the field of mechanical engineering for more than 105 years. The contribution of the team to the formation of the personnel base for the real sector of the economy of the Republic of Belarus was marked by the highest award of the legislative body of the country – the Certificate of Honor of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. Specialists are trained at the faculty by 6 departments, which are equipped with modern educational and research laboratories. The Digital Engineering Competence Center has been established on the basis of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It is a unique training and production site equipped with modern equipment, training stands and licensed software. The center allows students and teachers to solve a full range of tasks: from 3D modeling and digital design to setting up CNC machines and testing technological processes on virtual equipment counterparts. Here, future engineers master working in CAD/CAM/CAE environments, study industrial robotics, production line simulation, and the basics of digital quality management. As part of the practice-oriented training at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, training of participants in professional skills championships has been organized. Graduates of the faculty are able to develop and apply technological equipment, mechanical engineering technology, as well as organize production for the manufacture of transport and technological machines, their parts and assemblies. In-depth study of the block of economic disciplines allows graduates of the MSF to be not only qualified engineers, but also successful managers, marketers and economists. The best graduates, after obtaining the qualifications of engineer, mechanical engineer, and economics engineer, can continue their studies at the university's graduate and postgraduate programs.

Advice to applicants 

— When choosing a future profession, it is important to take into account your interests and hobbies, there is no need to pursue a "prestigious" or "fashionable" specialty. Any successful person will tell you that a specialty that perfectly suits your interests and abilities is the best path to success, self–fulfillment and satisfaction. Student life at the faculty 

Students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering traditionally take an active part in creative, media and scientific projects of the University, more than once being among the winners and prize-winners of various competitions.

At the BNTU Spring 2026 Student Art Festival, MSF students became one of the three winners of the Dance Day, winning a third degree diploma. In addition, the work of representatives of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was awarded a second degree diploma in the video contest.

In April 2026, the VIII Republican Youth Festival-competition "Mediasphere" was held in Grodno. The video "BNTU remembers. We keep our memory in our hearts", authored by the BNTU Student Council, took first place in the category "Electronic Media (professionals)". Elizaveta Mishkova, chairman of the Student Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, was among the representatives who presented the work at the festival (she also starred in the video).

In 2026, students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Tashkent won first place at the international festival "Future Engineers of the SCO", dedicated to robotics.

In December 2025, the results of the XVI Republican Contest of Innovative Projects were summed up. The third place in the nomination "Best Youth Innovation Project" was taken by the BNTU team led by Maria Gorenkova, a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The project is a series of educational tactile toys for children with visual impairments.
