A seminar on using the Antiplagiat system was held at BNTU.

В БНТУ прошел семинар по работе с системой «Антиплагиат»

Today, June 4, a training seminar for faculty and researchers was held at the Belarusian National Technical University. The main topic of the event was the intricacies of working with the text checking system and the importance of an expert approach to evaluating results.

The speaker was Irina Strelkova, official representative for training at Antiplagiat in Belarus, Associate Professor of the Department of Professional Education Technologies at the Russian Academy of Postgraduate Education, and doctoral student at the Academy of Education.

During the event, participants learned about the new functionality of the platform and analyzed the most common errors encountered in its use. Irina Strelkova provided a detailed overview of the system's algorithms, emphasizing that Antiplagiat is merely a tool in the hands of the researcher, and the final decision always rests with the expert.

Using specific examples, she demonstrated how to correctly interpret the results of checking scientific articles and dissertations. The speaker also noted the high level of digitalization in the academic environment – currently, 31 of the country's 45 operating higher education institutions have corporate access to the system.

The lecturer focused on dispelling myths about text checking. The main thesis of the seminar was that the program only detects text matches, not the actual fact of plagiarism. The system cannot prove anything and does not make independent decisions. Moreover, in the system's current reports, the borrowing indicator has been replaced with the more accurate term "coincidence."

Meeting participants also discussed the issue of self-citation and technological innovations in the field of match detection. In particular, they discussed the system's ability to recognize borrowings not only in text but also in graphic materials. Particular attention was paid to methods for detecting AI-generated text and the development of clear instructions for experts when detecting such texts.

The effective use of digital tools allows the university to maintain high standards of research quality and reliably protect copyright.
