The Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogy held a meeting dedicated to road safety rules and legal liability for violating them. The event was led by Kristina Baturo, an Investigation Inspector with the Traffic Police Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee.
The discussion began with the most pressing issue: the inadmissibility of driving or being on the road while intoxicated. Alcohol dulls attention and slows reaction times, which in city traffic often leads to irreparable consequences.
Particular attention was paid to legal subtleties. The inspector explained that serious liability applies not only to serious accidents. "Today, even minor or moderate bodily injury resulting from an accident is subject to administrative liability. This entails not only large fines but also a long-term suspension of the driver's license," Kristina Baturo emphasized.
Since many students are pedestrians or actively use personal mobility devices (e-scooters) and bicycles, the inspector devoted time to discussing the rules for these categories of transport as well. For example, cyclists and scooter users were reminded of the need to dismount when crossing the road and the importance of using reflective elements at night.
The meeting generated keen interest from the audience. Students actively asked questions about the resolution of disputed situations in traffic accidents.
"It was a revelation to me that even minor injuries sustained in an accident can so easily lead to someone losing their driver's license. This makes you think twice before speeding or being distracted by your phone while driving," said second-year student Mikhail Karnach.
"It was very helpful to hear about the rules for scooters. The season is about to begin, and it's important to know your rights and responsibilities to avoid causing problems for yourself and pedestrians," noted second-year student Ekaterina Chaikovskaya.
At the end of the meeting, Kristina Baturo spoke in detail about her service in the internal affairs agencies and the specifics of working in the State Traffic Inspectorate. The inspector invited those interested to consider employment with the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee after graduating from university.
