The Results of 2025: Ten Significant Achievements of BNTU in the Field of Science

Об итогах 2025 года: десять значимых достижений БНТУ в области науки

The past year was a period of intense scientific work and practical developments for the Belarusian National Technical University. Here are the top 10 most significant scientific achievements of the Polytechnic University in 2025.

Development of a Laser Complex as Part of the State Scientific and Technical Programs

As part of the implementation of the State Scientific and Technical Program "National Standards and High-Tech Research Equipment," the Research Center for Optical Materials and Technologies at the NIPI branch of the Belarusian National Technical University has developed a unique modular scientific and educational laser complex.

The development is based on fiber-optic technologies that allow the generation of ultra-short pulses for high-precision processing of materials. The main advantage of the complex is its open architecture, which allows for the configuration of the installation and the study of all stages of radiation formation.

Innovative medical products from the Politekhnik Technopark

The Politekhnik Technopark has provided a large-scale implementation of its developments in the healthcare system. In fulfillment of the instructions of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus, 5,300 knee joint endoprostheses and 50 implantation systems were supplied to medical institutions.

A significant result of the year was the registration of new products by the Ministry of Health: locked plates and screws for osteosynthesis with installation tools, an intramedullary tibial fixator with the possibility of locking, tools for its installation, as well as a synthetic protector for microvascular decompression.

Joint projects with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

As part of the subprogram "Scientific and Educational Equipment" of the State Scientific and Technical Program "National Standards and High-Tech Research Equipment," specialists from the Research Laboratory of Semiconductor Technology and the Department of Information Technology at BNTU, together with the Laboratory of Contact-Dynamic Methods of Control at the Institute of Applied Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, have developed a scientific and educational laboratory complex for studying the processes of elastic-plastic deformation of structural and functional materials and measuring their mechanical characteristics using the method of instrumental indentation.

The system allows you to determine the hardness, modulus of elasticity, and tensile strength of materials using the method of instrumental indentation (in the range of loads from 5 to 2000 N) in a single cycle. The main advantage of this development is the ability to obtain high-precision data directly on the finished product without damaging it, which makes this system a complete import-substituting solution.

Mathematical modeling of the BelNPP safety systems

Within the framework of the State Program "Science-intensive Technologies and Equipment", the specialists of the Energy Faculty of the BNTU have developed a unified thermal-hydraulic model of the VVER-1200 reactor unit for the analysis of the safety of the Belarusian NPP. In the ATHLET 3.3 software package, the scientists have synthesized mathematical models of the reactor, steam generators, and emergency cooling systems. The development has been successfully verified in stationary and transient modes (including the simulation of first-circuit leaks), confirming the high accuracy of predicting processes at a strategic facility.

Improving the reliability and efficiency of the transmissions of BELAZ mining equipment

Together with BELAZ JSC, the BNTU carried out a set of research and development activities aimed at improving the transmissions of heavy-duty mobile machines.

During the project, simulation models of key transmission components were developed using modern software packages, virtual and bench tests were conducted, and technical solutions were developed to improve the efficiency and reliability of the mechanisms.

The results have reduced the circulating power in transmissions by 15-20%, increased the efficiency and durability of units, eliminated the causes of damage to gear mechanisms and, in general, increased the competitiveness of domestic equipment.

Ultra-strong coatings for equipment of the Belarusian Metallurgical Plant

Scientists of the Research Laboratory of Plasma and Laser Technologies of the BNTU have created an innovative hybrid technology for hardening parts for OJSC "Belarusian Metallurgical Plant - Management Company of the Holding "Belarusian Metallurgical Company". The method is based on gas-thermal spraying of nickel alloys, followed by high-frequency melting and spray quenching. The new development increases the wear resistance of coatings by 1.5 to 2.5 times and is 10 to 15 times more efficient than laser melting.

The pilot batch of rollers has been successfully tested in the No. 3 steel wire shop of OAO BMZ. The tests confirmed the record-breaking durability of the parts (up to 3,054 tons), which allowed the company to reduce the specific cost of components per ton of production by 2 times.

Intelligent energy storage and management systems

As part of the State Program for Scientific Research "Energy and Nuclear Processes and Technologies," the Department of UNESCO "Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Sources" and the Research Laboratory of Innovative Energy at the BNTU-NIPI branch proposed a solution for hybrid energy storage systems.

Based on the modeling of the operation of lithium-ion and lead-acid blocks, the scientists implemented an adaptive control algorithm that allows the system to adapt to the load schedule. The result of the work was a methodology for calculating the economic effect, which helps enterprises and housing and communal services facilities to justify the implementation of such storage devices for energy backup and smoothing out consumption peaks.

Grants from the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research

Under the supervision of Igor Mikhuta, a unique methodology for monitoring the training of highly qualified canoeists using intelligent sensor systems was developed within the framework of a BRFFR grant. BNTU specialists have created an algorithm that converts data on the athlete's kinematics into a visual analysis of their speed and strength parameters.

The developed testing regulations allow the coaching staff to conduct high-precision monitoring of athletes' conditions in K-1 and K-2 boats, providing scientifically based adjustments to training sessions to achieve peak performance.

BNTU representatives among the winners of the VAK competition
The Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus summed up the results of the competition for the best dissertations of 2025. The winners were representatives of BNTU: in the nomination “Social and economic sciences and social sciences” – Anton Kalinin with the study “Integrated innovative structures in the global economy”, in the technical direction – Ilya Pletenev with the dissertation “Improving the resistance of under-filament refrigerators of glass production”.

Youth science and human resources

The university's leadership in personnel training was confirmed by the grand final of the "100 Ideas for Belarus" project, where the development of FinSpace by students Yaroslav Barnatovich, Dmitry Markevich, and German Zhuravsky was recognized as the best business idea.

The high potential of BNTU's youth science was also recognized at the state level. According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 183rp dated December 11, 2025, "On the Promotion of Talented Young Scientists," seven young scientists from the university received scholarships for 2026.

At the same time, the international authority of the university was consolidated by the defense of Kayumov Azizzhon Karimzhon ugli, the first graduate of postgraduate studies from Uzbekistan under the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation grant in the field of transport construction.

The results of 2025 confirm the status of BNTU as a leading center where fundamental knowledge is transformed into solutions that are in demand by the economy. The university effectively ensures the country's technological sovereignty by forming a scientific foundation for future generations of engineers.
