Today, September 16, a meeting with the management of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) was held at the Belarusian National Technical University. The main goal of the event was to discuss opportunities for further cooperation between the nuclear power plant and the Polytechnic University in training specialists for the energy sector.
The BNTU was represented by Director General Sergei Bobovich and Deputy Director General Vladimir Gretsky. BNTU was represented by Rector Sergei Kharitonchik, Dean of the Faculty of Energy Yevgeny Ponomarenko, and Head of the Thermal Power Plants Department Professor Nikolai Karnitsky.
At the meeting, those present discussed issues related to scientific research and the implementation of innovative technologies in student education. The CEO proposed equipping the laboratories of the Faculty of Power Engineering's new academic building, currently under construction, with models of the power plant's equipment and its schematics.
Furthermore, Sergei Bobrovich presented Sergei Kharitonchik with a letter of thanks, expressing his sincere appreciation for his high level of professionalism, broad competencies, and invaluable contribution to shaping the professional identity of BNTU graduates.
For their valuable contribution to the development of the energy industry, Sergei Vasilyevich, Evgeny Gennadyevich, and Nikolai Borisovich were awarded the "For Building the Belarusian National Power Plant" badges.
Following the event, Nikolai Karnitsky commented. He noted that the Belarusian National Technical University is a talent pool for the Belarusian energy sector. Every year, the university graduates highly qualified specialists, whose work advances this sector of the economy.
– I always say that people are the most important thing. There's a saying: 'People are everything.' Therefore, the operation of our equipment, its maintenance, and so on depend on how well our specialists are trained and how they fit into the real economy. In all the years that we've been graduating specialized engineers, we haven't received any complaints from companies regarding their work, – noted Nikolai Karnitsky.
The Faculty of Energy has trained approximately 230 engineers, who are deployed and successfully working at the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant. According to the head of the Thermal Power Plants department, the plant's operation has eliminated the republic's dependence on natural gas supplies:
– The plant currently generates 40% of all electricity produced, significantly reducing Belarus's dependence on imported natural gas. Before the commissioning of the Belarusian NPP, natural gas accounted for 96% of the country's energy balance. Now, thanks to nuclear energy, Belarus has significantly reduced gas consumption and gained its own alternative, reliable energy source. Importantly, the fuel loaded into the reactor ensures the plant's continuous operation for at least three years. This long operating cycle ensures a stable energy supply.
According to the professor, the future of the Belarusian energy sector is showing positive signs.
– The energy industry is considering the construction of new power units for the Belarusian NPP. The director is very pleased with our graduates, and we will continue in the same spirit, ensuring that engineers from BNTU contribute to the development of the Belarusian energy sector, – emphasized Nikolai Karnitsky.
