The presentation of new requirements for the machines and technological equipment being created, for the level of their mechanization and automation, and the improvement of technical and economic indicators caused in the 60s and 70s the widespread use of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, as well as hydraulic and pneumatic equipment in the national economy. This, in turn, required the training of design engineers, specialists in calculation, design of hydraulic and pneumatic systems of mobile and technological machines, their maintenance and repair during operation. In this regard, the specialty "Hydropneumoautomatics and hydropneumatic drive" was opened at the Automotive Faculty in 1977, and the first graduation of the relevant specialists by the "Tractors" department took place in 1982. On September 12, 1985, in order to concentrate forces and improve the quality of training, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the BSSR established the Department of Hydropneumoautomatics and Hydropneumatic Drive at the Automotive Faculty of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute (Order No. 597 dated September 12, 1985). From the day of foundation, the department trained mechanical engineers in the specialty "Hydropneumoautomatics and hydropneumatic drive" specialization "Systems of hydropneumatic drives of automatic manipulators", later - in the specialty "Hydraulic machines, hydraulic drive and hydropneumatic automatics", and then in the specialty "Hydropneumatic systems of transport and technological machines".
