The department's sphere of scientific activity encompasses a wide range of issues related to improving existing and developing new hydropneumatic systems, their components, and equipment used across all sectors of the national economy. This includes calculations, development, creation, and diagnostics of various electro-pneumatic actuators, anti-lock braking systems for vehicles, integrated hydraulic systems for brake actuation, steering control, and tipping mechanisms of heavy-duty quarry trucks, as well as numerous other hydraulic and pneumatic systems of mobile and technological machines.
The department has been involved in various research projects funded by state programs and contractual agreements, notably under significant State Programs such as "Resource Conservation," "Belavtotractor Construction," "Mechanics," "Quarry Equipment," among others.
The faculty members of the department have published over 1500 scientific works, obtained more than 450 copyrights and patents, many of which have been implemented in industrial enterprises throughout the Republic of Belarus. Contributing to the development of the Belarusian scientific school of mechanical engineers, the department provides education for doctoral students in "Machine Science, Drive Systems, and Machine Components" and "Wheeled and Tracked Vehicles," as well as for master's students in "Mechanical Engineering and Machine Science." Over the years, the department has trained Dr. M. Khalamonski, head of the heating and ventilation department at a technological university in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and approximately 30 candidates of technical sciences, including M.M. Zabolotsky, Deputy Chief Designer at the Belarusian Automobile Plant; L.A. Glazkov, Head of the Research Institute of Hydropneumatic Systems and Petroleum Products at BNTU; M.I. Zhilevich, P.N. Kishkevich, and I.M. Flerko, Deputy Deans of the Automotive and Tractor Faculty at BNTU; and A.N. Smirnov, Head of the Management Sector of the Chief Designer at OJSC "Amkodor," among others.
Students also actively participate in the department's research activities. Each year, 15-25 students present papers at national and international conferences. The best research results are submitted for patent applications, published in scientific journals, and prepared for competitions, with opportunities for obtaining grants.
In 2014, five students of the department—Y.V. Vashchyonak, D.S. Laptenovich, M.A. Mishensky, V.A. Putyat, and N.S. Nikolaenko—were awarded prizes from the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the social support of gifted students and students.
Creative and talented graduates who have demonstrated active involvement in education and scientific research have the opportunity to continue their education in master's and doctoral programs.
All activities of the department and the research laboratory are closely linked to production. Leading enterprises of the Republic of Belarus such as BelAZ, MAZ, MTZ, "Belcommunmash," "Amkodor," MZKT, among others, are customers for many research projects carried out by the department. These enterprises provide opportunities for technological, design, and pre-diploma internships for students.
The department engages in scientific and technical cooperation with foreign partners and provides targeted training for foreign specialists in modern engineering and technical fields related to hydropneumatic systems of mobile and technological machines. Under the supervision of department staff, doctoral and candidate dissertations have been defended by foreign specialists from Poland, Vietnam, Jordan, and Lebanon, as well as master's theses by citizens of Libya.
Students also take an active part in the research work of the department. Every year, up to 15 - 25 people make presentations at national and international conferences. According to the best research, applications for inventions are submitted, scientific articles are published, papers are drawn up, for participation in competitions, there is the possibility of obtaining grants.
So in 2014, five students of the department: Vashchenok Yu.V., Laptanovich D.S., Mishensky M.A., Putyat V.A., Nikolaenko N.S. were awarded prizes of the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the social support of gifted pupils and students.
Creatively capable graduates who have shown activity in their studies and scientific work have the opportunity to continue their studies in the magistracy and postgraduate studies.
