In the 1960s and 1970s, as new stringent requirements for machinery and technological equipment emerged, there was a widespread adoption of hydraulic and pneumatic systems across various sectors of the national economy. This shift increased the demand for engineers specializing in the design, calculation, maintenance, and repair of these essential systems for both mobile and industrial machinery.
To meet this demand, the specialty of "Hydropneumatic Automation and Hydropneumatic Drive" was introduced at the Automobile and Tractor Faculty in 1977. The first cohort of specialists graduated from the "Tractors" department in this field in 1982. Recognizing the need for focused efforts and enhanced educational outcomes, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic officially established the Department of "Hydropneumatic Automation and Hydropneumatic Drive" at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute on September 12, 1985 (Order No. 597).
Since its inception, the department has been dedicated to training mechanical engineers specialized in "Hydropneumatic Automation and Hydropneumatic Drive." Initially, the focus was on "Hydropneumatic Drive Systems for Automatic Manipulators," expanding over time to cover "Hydraulic Machinery, Hydraulic Drive, and Hydropneumatic Automation." Today, the department offers comprehensive undergraduate programs in this field, featuring two specialized tracks: I-36 01 07-01 "Hydropneumatic Systems of Mobile Machines" and I-36 01 07-02 "Hydropneumatic Systems of Technological Machines."
