Today, on June 30, as part of the cultural and patriotic campaign "Calendar and Book of Memory", a rally was held at the Victory Monument and representatives of labor collectives and the public of the Sovetsky district of Minsk laid flowers at the obelisk.
For reference: the Calendar and Book of Memory campaign started on June 22, the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, and will last until July 3. The action is held to preserve the historical truth about the heroic deed of the Soviet people and to foster patriotism among young people, as well as to express gratitude to the heroes.
The Belarusian National Technical University was represented at the event by Rector Sergei Kharitonchik, Vice-rector for Ideological and Educational Work Timur Matyushinets, head of the Center for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs Irina Good, as well as representatives of the leadership and student activists of the faculties.
The purpose of the campaign is to keep the generations connected and not let them forget about the price of Victory, which was also noted by Alexandra Morozova, First Deputy head of the Sovetsky District administration.
— Today we have gathered here to pay tribute to the memory and respect of the participants of the Great Patriotic War. To the dead, who gave us victory and freedom at the cost of their own lives; to the survivors, who raised our country from the ruins. We thank them for their strength and courage, and promise to preserve their memory for many years to come. In such a complex, unstable, unpredictable geopolitical situation in the world, our task is to preserve the historical memory of the heroic deed of the Belarusian people, to do everything possible so that enemies do not distort the facts about it.
The pages of the symbolic "Memorial Calendar" are turned over daily, and each date reminds of specific steps, operations and battles that brought the liberation of Belarus closer. So, on June 30, 1944, during the Minsk operation of the troops of the 1st Belorussian Front, Lyubansky, Krasnoslobodskaya, Pleshchenitsky, Kopatkevichi, Slutsk districts and Slutsk were liberated.
Next to the "Memorial Calendar" there is also a "Book of Memory", where any participant of the action can write in it the names of relatives who fought for their Homeland, or leave words of gratitude to the defenders of Belarus.
Thanks to the events of the campaign, students are strengthening their understanding of the inextricable link between generations and personal responsibility for preserving historical truth.
