On May 14, 2026, a significant event took place at the Faculty of Management Technologies and Humanitarization of the Belarusian National Technical University for students specializing in "Customs." As part of a practical lesson in the course "Technical Means of Customs Control," a meeting was held with representatives of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations of the Republic of Belarus.
Specialists from the State Committee revealed the main approaches and methods of examining documents and banknotes to establish their authenticity, as well as to detect forgery in the context of conducting forensic technical examination of document details.
The session was structured in two stages: theoretical and practical, which allowed students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the features of expertise. It was conducted by Lieutenant Colonel of Justice Milevich I.A., acting Deputy Head of the Department of Technical Examinations of Documents and Accounting of Printing Products of the Main Directorate of Forensic Examinations of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations of the Republic of Belarus.
In the theoretical part, the specialist gave a detailed explanation of the system for protecting banknotes of various countries, as well as the security elements of document forms. The students learned about modern means and methods of currency protection, the methods, and forensic equipment used to establish their authenticity.
The practical part of the session turned out to be particularly rich and informative. Students were shown genuine and counterfeit banknotes and documents, which they were able to examine directly. Together with the expert, the participants thoroughly studied all the security features of genuine currency notes and then analyzed the counterfeits. Milevich I.A. explained the methods of falsifying certain security elements and advised on what to pay attention to first when checking banknotes and documents, including multi-page ones, such as passports.
A special value was the opportunity to see not only poorly made counterfeits, which are easy to detect, but also what is called a "superfake" $100 bill — a high-quality counterfeit, the study of which requires a professional approach. As part of the practical section, counterfeit passports, driver’s licenses, and vehicle registration certificates were also demonstrated. Using technical control tools, students compared them with genuine documents, identifying missing or simulated security features in the counterfeits.
According to the students, the meeting made a strong impression and became a valuable addition to theoretical knowledge. Participants of the session shared their impressions: 'In classes, we study technical control tools a lot, but seeing with our own eyes what counterfeits look like, which specific signs indicate falsification — this is invaluable experience. It was especially useful to hear real stories from specialists who deal with such cases every day.'
Such events are an important part of the educational process at BNTU, as they allow students not only to better grasp the study material, but also to form a clear understanding of their future profession, get acquainted with potential employers, and be inspired by the experience of practicing professionals.
