We continue our series of publications on the 2025 results at BNTU. Today, we focus on key achievements and significant events in ideological and educational work that shaped the university's youth policy over the past year.
Exhibition in Memory of Genocide Victims Opens
In 2025, BNTU held the grand opening of an exhibition dedicated to the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War and the postwar period. Rector Sergei Kharitonchik and Anton Zagorovsky, Prosecutor of the Sovietsky District of Minsk, attended the event. Oksana Lepesh, Associate Professor of the History Department, led the first tour for those present.
The exhibition, based on materials from the Prosecutor General's Office investigation and archival documents, is an important element of the educational process. It helps students gain a deeper understanding of the scale of the tragedy and the value of a peaceful future. The exhibition displays include archival photographs, eyewitness accounts, and documents that tell the story of our people's tragedy. Each of these testimonies is the voice of those who could not be heard.
The Union State Forum "Memory of Generations" was organized and held for the first time.
This year at the country's leading technical university was also memorable for the organization and holding of the Union State Forum "Memory of Generations," dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. As part of the event, BNTU hosted a delegation from the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II.
The visit included educational, scientific, and developmental modules. St. Petersburg students met with university staff, toured the exhibition "History of the Great Patriotic War in Faces," a display of the best works submitted to the annual photography competition "A Moment of My Life," and toured the university's laboratories. The students also participated in a roundtable discussion titled "Youth Projects for Civic and Patriotic Education of the Population," which featured representatives from BNTU. The forum became a platform for strengthening dialogue between representatives of the Union State's educational community and discussing joint initiatives to preserve historical memory.
Events of Section No. 4 at the XIV Forum of Universities
Session No. 4, "Patriotic Education in Engineering Education in the Union State," was organized as part of the XIV Forum of Engineering and Technology Universities of the Union State. Over the course of three days, participants exchanged ideas and projects in the field of patriotic education and visited the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War and the Stalin Line Historical and Cultural Complex. Discussions of sovereignty and education in the spirit of loyalty to tradition, as well as the presentation of patriotic projects, set the direction for the further development of educational work at universities in the Union State.
BNTU Representatives Win the International Competition Dedicated to Victory in the Great Patriotic War
A special achievement in 2025 was the victory of BNTU Student Council Chairman Alexander Malashko and BNTU Student Council Deputy Chairman Yaroslav Bazhko in the competition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. The competition was organized by St. Petersburg State University.
Alexander Malashko dedicated his work to the heroic journey of his cousin, pilot Luka Muravitsky, who was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for his exploits and bravery. Yaroslav Bazhko's project, presented by the student council, reflected the memories of a Great Patriotic War veteran who, before the war, was a student at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. The video combined artistic images from the past and present, allowing the viewer to experience the atmosphere of the pre-war era. The young people's work not only earned a well-deserved victory for the university but also made an important contribution to strengthening the bond between generations, transforming the personal stories of the heroes into a shared memory of the Union State.
BNTU Student Council Wins 5th International Youth Video Festival "Tsifra"
BNTU students also excelled at the 5th International Youth Video Festival of Moscow State University "Tsifra." A record number of works—276 entries from nine countries—were submitted to the festival. The project "Keeping Memory in Our Hearts. BNTU Remembers" was awarded the Grand Prix in the "Memory in Granite" category. Its authors are Alexander Malashko, a student of the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering, Yaroslav Bazhko, and Anastasia Khalimon, a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogics. The festival's top award in the memory category once again confirmed that as long as memory lives in the hearts and creativity of young people, the heroic deeds of these heroes remain immortal.
BNTU volunteers are among the best in Belarus
The past year also brought recognition to BNTU volunteers. The BNTU volunteer squad "ArchIdea" won the "Best Volunteer Squad" category of the 2025 National Volunteer of the Year competition.
BNTU Wins Republican Youth Patriotic Forum
As part of the Republican Youth Patriotic Forum "Citadel of Memory: Echo of War. Let's Preserve the Memory Together," held in 2025, the results of a creative work competition on the theme of the Great Patriotic War were announced. BNTU students participated in the competition. Following the forum, the Polytechnic University team, consisting of Yaroslav Bazhko, Deputy Chairman of the Student Council, and Pavel Loiko, Head of the BNTU Volunteer Squad, won the Video category. During the forum, the Polytechnic University students, along with students from the Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University, visited the Brest Fortress – Hero Memorial Complex, where they witnessed a nighttime military-historical reenactment, "June 22. Brest Fortress."
As Pavel noted, it is crucial for them, as young people, to do everything possible to preserve historical memory and communicate their ideas to a wider audience through creativity.
The "Heirs of the Great Victory" Competition Held for the First Time
In collaboration with the Sovietsky District Prosecutor's Office of Minsk, the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) organized and held the "Heirs of the Great Victory" video contest for the first time, in honor of the anniversary year of the Great Victory. The awards ceremony for the participants and winners was attended by Anton Zagorovsky, Senior Justice Advisor and Prosecutor of the Sovietsky District of Minsk. Prizes were awarded to Aleksandr Malashko (first-place diploma), Angelina Nazarova, a student of the Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogics (second-place diploma), Darya Kapustina, a student of the Faculty of Management Technologies and Humanitarian Studies, and Anna Yashchembskaya, a student of the Automobile and Tractor Faculty (third-place diploma).
Summing up the competition, the prosecutor emphasized the importance of remembering one's ancestors and fully recognizing the heroic deeds they accomplished.
BNTU representatives carried out repairs and restoration of a military cemetery.
BNTU students restored military cemetery No. 4830 in the village of Zagvazdino in 2025. The initiative for the reconstruction came from international students. The location was chosen deliberately: Lieutenant Abdulla Gilyamov, grandfather of Tashkent State Transport University Vice-Rector Abdulaziz Gulamov, is buried in the village of Zagvazdino in the Dubrovensky District of the Vitebsk Region. He died heroically on June 23, 1944, liberating Zagvazdino during the Belarusian offensive Operation Bagration. BNTU staff and students volunteered to improve the area and were later awarded certificates of appreciation by the Dubrovensky District Executive Committee.
BNTU student Elizaveta Khulup wins the "BLOGOSPHERE 7.0" competition
BNTU Instrument Engineering student Elizaveta Khulup has won the open national blogger competition "BLOGOSPHERE 7.0." Having successfully passed the selection stages and a large-scale online vote among more than 100 applicants from across the country, she won the project's highest award—the honorary Grand Prix—and also won a special online voting category. Elizaveta's success is a testament to the creative potential of Polytechnic University students and their ability to create high-quality and in-demand content in the modern digital space.
In 2025, BNTU continued to actively develop its ideological and educational work, focusing on contemporary challenges and societal needs. The university became a platform for numerous initiatives aimed at fostering civic responsibility, patriotism, and social engagement in students. In 2026, this area will continue to develop, attracting new young faces.
