Results of the second stage of the "Gorny - BNTU" sports contest

Yesterday, December 19, 2025, Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University hosted the final stage of the "Gorny - BNTU" sports contest.The sporting event brought together students and teachers from two leading technical universities and was timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The Belarusian National Technical University was represented by 30 students and 6 teachers. The Spartakiad program included competitions in basketball, volleyball, table tennis and judo

During the event, university representatives emphasized the importance of sports competitions for the development of interuniversity cooperation. Evgeny Lyubin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at St. Petersburg Mining University, noted that BNTU and the Mining University have been linked by long-term cooperation, which develops academic mobility, implements joint research projects and extracurricular initiatives, including sports events.

Yaroslav Potachits, Dean of the BNTU Faculty of Sports Engineering, spoke about the importance of sports in the training of future engineers. He emphasized that sports foster discipline, self-organization, and a drive for excellence, which are essential for the professional development of technical university graduates.

The final competition of the second stage of the Spartakiad was the men's basketball match, which ended with a score of 70:51 in favor of the team from Saint Petersburg Mining University. Arseniy Baklaga was recognized as  the best player in the BNTU team and was awarded a commemorative basketball. The BNTU basketball team also included Artem Zhuravskiy, Ilya Krivets, Timofey Bezya, Nikita Lukashevich, Ivan Chernov, Daniil Glukhov, Kirill Deduchenko, Andrey Bezya, and Arseniy Shimanskiy.

The day culminated in a formal closing ceremony. Gennady Rudenko, Head of the Physical Education Department at Saint Petersburg Mining University, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He thanked the BNTU students for their participation and the impressive athletic competition, and expressed hope for further development of cooperation between the universities in the field of sports.

Despite the outcome of the final basketball match, the BNTU team emerged victorious in the second stage of the Spartakiad with a score of 3-1 across all competitive events. Yaroslav Potachits accepted the winner's trophy, and the teams and their participants were awarded commemorative awards.

The competition became an important step in the development of sports cooperation between the Mining University and BNTU. The parties expressed confidence that the holding of the Spartakiad in 2026 will become another bright page in the history of bilateral relations.
